How can I change my Garmin Nuvi from germany to australia

Do you have the map checked (enabled) on the map screen? At the main menu, press the tools icon, then the map icon and then the map info button. You should see the Europe map listed. Make sure it is checked. If it isn't, then the map will be turned off. Once it is enabled you should be able to perform searches for places in Europe

Free Garmin Map updates can be downloaded within 90 days of purchase or are free for a life time when it's purchased with lifetime map updates.
Software updates are always free.

Maps / software can be updated online by registering your Garmin at MyGarmin.com using the serial number and your name. On this website you'll be guided through the steps to download / install the required web browser plugin to communicate with your Garmin Nuvi.

When connected over the USB cable - MyGarmin.com shows compatible map or software updates. These will be free in the conditions mentioned above.

Note that updating a map online requires a 3Gb download. This can take a very long time and requires a stable internet connection. Also your Mac need to have at least 5 Gb of free space to install the Map.

A Nuvi software update is much smaller and takes less time to complete.

To change the Voice Settings

• Press TOOLS
• then SETTINGS
  
• then LANGUAGE

Press VOICE LANGUAGE and select an english voice

If your text is also in german

• Press TEXT LANGUAGE
• Select ENGLISH
  

and press OK. When you go back to the main screen it should all operate in english.

You can, but...

You'll need to load the mapping onto a removable memory card, as your device's memory isn't large enough. Adding a memory card with additional maps really slows the machine down, painfully so. Buying the European mapping pack isn't cheap: you can buy a brand new satnav with full European (including UK and Eire) mapping preinstalled for about the same price. Click here for a current example, but there are cheaper ones if you abandon Garmin in favour of Medion or other brands.

It works out even cheaper if you sell the old satnav to fund the purchase of the new one. When you need the Oz/NZ mapping again you can do the same thing again as by then your original unit will probably have out of date maps anyway.

You can purchase maps for download at https://buy.garmin.com/shop/buymaps.do?null&ra=true. Garmin does sell the maps for Australia at that site.

There are other maps available from third parties which are compatible but you'd have to confirm that from the seller.

Call Garmin at 800-800-1020...they will be able to direct you in this completely. You will have to hook up to your computer with the cable and probably purchase the Germany maps and download them to the unit. Either way, they will be able to help.

well you need to update the firmware of your gps also call garmin customer support they are great tell them about the map, also the poor satelite cover might be because of your location or weather conditions

How old is the gps, if you answer is more than 2 years could mean you have a bad antenna, i would look into purchasing the extended antenna from the manufacturer if its not too expensive to test that theory.
