Connectivity problems Hello, I tried to set up Comcast cable internet on my Lenovo 3000 C100 today. It included an hour of trouble shooting with Comcast until the rep finally found the issue; he told me to go to Device Manager screen > View > Network Adaptor. I told him that "network adaptor" was not listed to which his reply was "that why you cannot connect." He then told me to call Lenova for help adding it to the laptop. I called them and they wanted to charge me $99 for support in adding it. Is there a more affordable way to do this via the internet? ps : I am not using wireless. I am tethering into a modem box (RCA, DCM425). The RCA is plugged into the broadband COAX in the wall....

Hello Guru and thank you for you help so far....! Here are my answers ..

Yes, I have a port on my laptop that looks the same as a phone jack but much larger.

Do you have a blue icon on your F keys that looks like an antenna? (a blue verticle line with radiating half circles on either side?) No, only orange icon on the F keys...and no orange key with blue verticle line with radiating half circles; I do have an orange-colored laptop icon with radiating half circles.

And are you using your laptop to connect to FixYa? No, I am using my a separate business laptop using a broadband pcmcia card.

    Thanks ...

    Erik

Hello,

Are you willing to go through some questions and answers to find out what you've got and what will work?

For example, do you have a port on your laptop that looks the same as a phone jack but much larger?

Do you have a blue icon on your F keys that looks like an antenna? (a blue verticle line with radiating half circles on either side?)

And are you using your laptop to connect to FixYa?

Regards,
Worldvet

Is your business laptop connected to your comcast modem?

BTW, I'm in the Pacific Time Zone, and its the end of the day here. Most of us run our own shops and I have a home office and give time to Fix Ya when I can. We're going to be breaking for dinner here but I usually get back online later in the evening around 11 or Midnight.

Good News is you have a laptop that can connect to your modem. I just don't understand why you were put off and why your laptop maker wanted so much for a troubleshoot.

You noticed when you logged into our system you could have chosen a Live Chat. I think your issues can be resolved by Live Chat would have been a wrong choice. We will get you online, thankfully your not using that laptop to reach us as I'll have you dig into some settings. Also, a Premium Support question would have had about 6 techs jumping in on your question and sometimes its hard for you to follow what is being offered.

Let there be no doubt in your mind though I believe we can get you connected via network cable or wirelessly. It will take a while to setup your laptop though using this email system. So I'll post some info later tonight and we can carry this on tomorrow and finish. You may need your comcast user name and password handy and we may have to have you download dome drivers for your laptop and you use a memory card or burned CD to transfer them onto your laptop in question so patience will be important .

As I pointed out at the start this will require a lot of responses back and forth but we will succeed.

    Regards,
    Worldvet

    Hello,

The plug hole that is larger than a phone plug is a Network Adaper jack. If you have a Network jack on your Comcast modem you only need a network cable to connect both and then we would setup your network connection to the internet later. However, this network adapter probably needs to be turned on in your system bios setup screens. The same is true for your onboard wireless adapter. That is what the computer icon and radiating half circles is on your F keytop is located means. You can try pressing the Fn key + the icon mentioned above at the exact same time and this should turn on and off your wireless radio transceiver. Try that to see if you get an onscreen display and a new icon in your system tray next to the clock on your desktop and let me know. If you don't that probably needs to be turned on in the bios setup screens too.

Do you know how to get to the system bios setup screens during bootup? That is where the Network adapter would have to be enabled and the same may be true for the wireless radio too.

    Regards,
    Worldvet

If the problem persists on external monitor, then you have a faulty video chipset on motherboard.

If the picture is good on external monitor, then problem concerns LCD panel , or LCD cable on laptop.
