Problem using sublimation inks

Am using sublimation inks with the Epson Photo R1800 printer and the red light comes on above the Cyan and Matt Black cartridges although they are fitted up correctly and the ink is fitted. The error message says that they are empty and that Epson doesn't recognise the cartridges, even although they are the same as the others that it recognises. Any ideas what might be the problem?

Since you are using sublmation ink, the cartridges are probably aftermarket and may not meet Epson standards. Aftermarket chipped cartridges are notorious for failing to 'communicate' with Epson printers, even when the cartridge is brand new. Before taking the printer to a service center, you might try purchasing new cartridges of your ink from your reseller. If that fixes the problem then your fight is with the ink reseller, not Epson. If it doesn't fix the problem and your printer is still under warranty, take it to an authorized service center, and remember, using non-Epson ink does NOT void the waranty.

I have inherited an Epson R1800 printer that guzzles magenta and cyan inks like crazy. Am I doing something wrong?

No, If you are printing any coloured output this will be normal depending on the actual colour content and what most people don't realise is that unless your text is pure black then it will be printed using the color carts as well and not the black ink cart.

What do I have to do if I want to use sublimation ink on Epson stylus photo 1290?Thanks

what you want is not possible. the Epson Stylus Photo 1290 does not use sublimation ink. it is strongly advised to only use genuine Epson ink to keep the print quality of your print head as high as possible.

Hi my R1800 has 2 flashing red lights (top) and no power light. What can i do? MAria

Hi.
It could be your ink tray has overflowed.
There is software http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml which might help.

Install this program, set your printer model and the driver (Epson Stylus Photo R1800) when it starts up. Close the program, and it will minimize to the
tray on the taskbar - right click on the icon and goto "Protection Counter". Choose
"Reset Protection Counter". Choose "Yes" to the question about the waste ink pads,
then switch the printer off for 1 minute. This should cure the problem.
