Hello, I have a Kenwood KDC-X791 My deck lights up on the sides... (the two selecting wheels)... but the display in the center does not.. I can still play music thanks to memorizing the order of buttons i must push in order to play the tracks i want.. but I would really like to fix this issue Where do you think the problem lies?? in the face plate or the deck? i double checked the contacts on the faceplace to make sure they were clean and secure .. and thers seems to be no issue

I would start by disconnecting the radio and hooking it up right,the power should go through the ignition switch.So that when you turn the car off the radio will go off and to hear it on again you have to turn the key to accessory or start it.That might take care of a few of your problems.

there may be bad solder connections on some surface mount resistors inside the deck.

Sounds like you might have a bad connection where the faceplate connects to the unit, or the faceplate is bad.

the resistors are not in the face plate, but on the main motherboard inside the deck itself. usually on the right side of the board.

The following is found on pages 10 and 11 of the manual:

1. Enter Menu mode
Press the [B.BOOST] button for at least 1 second.
"MENU" is displayed
2. Select the menu item
Press the top or bottom side of the Control knob.

"CLK ADJ" can only be performed when in Standby Mode

Manual Clock Adjustment

1. Select Clock Adjustment Mode
2. Press the center of the Control knob for at least 1 second
-the clock display blinks
3. Adjust the hours
Press the top or bottom side of the Control knob.

Adjust the minutes
Press the left or right side of the Control knob.
4. Exit Clock adjustment mode
Press the [B.BOOST] button.

you probably have bad solder connections on a series of surface mount resistors on the front left side of the deck.

there are several surface mount resistors on the right side inside of the deck that need to be resoldered.

try 3051 or 1234

if you google the model number of your stero and type in manual it will find you one then you can pick the one you like and sometime you can find the orignal one and you can just print it out try the manufact web site first
