Powershred 380-c Shredder keeps stopping with the red trash symbol showing - which normally appears if bag is full or shredder is jammed. Even if I empty the bag and clear the shredding 'teeth' the same thing occurs - occasionally it'll allow a couple of sheets to shred - but will stop again soon after. Help!

Please double check that you've cleaned out parts from the shredder and check any related sensor is used to determine device trash capacity to ensure there is a no tape accidentally applied to it (or something else that would apply pressure to the sensor). Thank you.

You could measure the frame of the shredder (add about 7 inches in height for fold over) and convert to gallons. (Most bags are rated in gallons.
Looking on the Primo website, their current model, the 3901 shows it to be 148 liter (approximately 39 gal).

Staples sells a 38 gal bags designed for the Fellowes Powershred, number 3605801, $60 for 50 bags ($1.20 ea). They measure 23"x23"x21". Measure the frame and see if these fit. (Again, allow 7-8" for overlap at the top).

HSM sells 100 bags for $98 ($0.98 ea), designed to fit the HSM 390.3 Level 6 shredder (think it's similar to the Primo 3900 at 39 gallons).

Check and make sure there is no paper or paper dust covering the Bin Full sensor. underneath the head.

I don't have your shredder, but check to see if the top part where the shredder mechanism is closes completely over the trash can. If it is not lining up, it may have a shut off switch. I had put a plastic bag inside mine to catch the bits, and it bunched up at the part where that connection needs to be clear and it stopped. When I smoothed that area, or removed that bad, it worked again. GOOD LUCK!

there are three switches on most shredders that can cause them to stop.
1) a jam
2) door ajar
3) bag full
If you can rule out a jam, and the door ajar light goes on when the door is open and off when its closed, and the shredder has not been undergoing very heavy use (they will overheat and shut off, then be fine in 15 min or so)
then its a safe bet to say that it has to do with the switch that tells the shredder that the bag is full (when you take out the bag you can see a metal flap hanging down at the back of the top opening)
the way that the shreddings fall can often trip the swtich that tells the shredder that the bag is full, shake the bag a bit so the paper resettles that often fixes it.

it means you have a jam. check below the shredder heads for paper hanging down triggering the jam sensor. to check this, open the front door, remove the waist basket or bag, then look up underneath. Make sure it is turned off and unplugged so there is no chance of an accident.

If you see paper hanging down, remove the paper, and try it.
