ok what happen if a friend come to visit you or someone who you don't know? he knock on door and tells you that he come live with you ok?this is the same as computer , you don't plug only to your computer you have to talk to your computer by a program who is called driver . your webcam has a driver , you have first ti install it and your computer will recognize it.

The Compaq Presario CQ60-220US does not normally come with a Webcam: you can verify this by trying to locate a camera len which will facing you and situated in the middle of the top LCD frame.

In any case, you do not need a Webcam to install Skype to talk to your grand-son: if he has a webcam, you will however be able to see him on your laptop.

ps. A cheap external USB connected webcam is always an option.

The problem is on your end. You can try several things. 1) if your webcam has a ring on the front of the lens you can turn it to focus. 2) connect your computer to the router/modem with an ethernet cable instead of wireless so you get better bandwidth. 3) try the tips in the article How To Improve Your Webcam Video Quality, especially the lighting tips.

Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype set it up as follows:

1. Go to TOOLS, then OPTIONS, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
2. Then click on the Video Settings.
3. The camera if installed properly will come up and show a picture.
4. Then on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now see and talk to you.

B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger set it up as follows:

1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

C. Windows Live Messenger:

1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.

NOTE: You audio and video shoud work. Enjoy.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.

First I will confirm what you've posted.

Before going to your friends house you used to connect the laptop up via the network cable. Since youve tried your laptop on your friends wireless it no longer allows you to surf the web via the wireless nore the wired connection?

To me it sounds like a possible mis-configuration between your laptop and your linksys router. Depending on what operating system you are using you need to get into your network connection settings (usually in control panel) and either set the TCP/IP to automatically obtain ip address or set it correctly.

If you have never had to configure this in the past ensure that obtain automatically is set.
