Have a moen shower/tub model #82300 2300 series. need to replace cartridge. What cartridge should I buy.

  • Anonymous Nov 07, 2010

I already have the manual that came with the faucet. It does not list the part number for the cartridge. Searched Moen and no solution. Appreciate your help.

Thanks. While waiting for reply, decided to do google search for moen posi temp cartridges. Listed was part number 1222. Looks like the cartridge I have. Should know because the original one was bad and had to replace it. Very difficult to get cartridge out and I have the metal t shaped tool but will not work with this cartide. Prongs not long enough. Plastic tool will work, but it gets destroyed by the time you do get cartridge out.

    Thanks again.

yes MOEN is fairly skimpy on describing replacement parts. If removed you can see which one to buy provide by the second email I just sent. They do need to be matched up when replacing them

No water in tub

you may have some obstruction. remove the cartridge and check if there's anything in the valve body. sometimes the rubber pieces on the cartridge can dislodge. you might try to flush a little water through the valve before you put it back together. remember Moen says "buy it for looks, buy it for life." The cartridge is guaranteed for life.

Even if the cartridge looks good from the outside I have had them plug up internally with mineral deposits. I would remove cartridge and replace it.Hope this helps.Thank you

I have a moen single handle tub and shower faucet took out the clip and pulled but the stem will not come out what esle is holding it

You need to purchase a replacement cartridge before trying to remove a defective Moen cartridge. Always buy genuine Moen. If your valve turns on and off with a pull/push action you need part number 1225B, otherwise you need part number 1222. The 1200 cartridge will work in lieu of the 1225B but is more expensive and no longer used in Moen valves. There is a tool that comes with these cartridges which looks a bit like a white plastic cap.with notches on one end and a square head on the other.
Once the clip has been removed the only thing keeping the cartridge in the vslve is old sticky lubricant. Place the tool over the cartridge end and rotate as necessary until the notches are fully engaged and it no longer rotates. Using pliers or a wrench over the squared end, twist the tool back and forth several times. Remove the tool, and using pliers, pull the old cartridge out. Put the tool on the replacement part and insert it back into the valve. Lightly tap on the squared end to make sure the new part is completely seated, then use the squared end again to turn the cartridge as necessary to align for the clip to be reinstalled.

Moen one handle tub & shower is leaking from spigit

A stem is a cartridge in a real old valve. You have pulled retainer clip, you can try to pull it out with pliers, but you might need a moen cartrigde puller.

Moen shower/tub faucet

hi... yes that's a very common issue with moen "cartridges" -- it's very simple to fix..... grasp the handle and give it a gentle tug upwards when the water is on... if it retracts again, pull the handle out again and tug again but this time a bit harder. Not sure what causes this on new cartridges but it will fix your issue.
