UVB rays are mostly absorbed by the cornea (the outermost layer on the front of the eye) and so do not penetrate through to the retina, unlike UVA radiation which passes through the cornea to the lens and retina of the eye.

The intense ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun damage sensitive cells in the eyes, eventually affecting vision. However, a number of studies have shown that the effects build up and may increase the chance of developing eye problems later in life. These may include cataracts, a clouding of the lens of the eye.

Most eye specialist recommends that you can save your eye for wearing sunglasses while going out to the sun's exposure and help your eyes to be safe. You can also try having a healthy diet filled with fruits & vitamins.

It's not the sun that hurts your eyes. It's the harmful light from it, like UV, blue light. Plus, the glare from it can give your eyes sudden damage. So try to wear sunglasses every day, not only in summertime.

When your eyes begin to tear or squint due to bright outdoor light, your eyes are creating a natural defense against UV ray, which are harmful and can affect the eyes. Even if you wear sunglasses on every sunny day, you still may not be doing enough to protect your eyes from those dangerous rays. After years of going unprotected, your eyes will eventually break down and disease may be inevitable. In order to prevent diseases from affecting your eyes, you must wear sunglasses that are at least UV400, and keep your eyes shaded as much as possible.

Tips on water sports sunglasses

When you're waterskiing, it's imperative that your line of vision is clear. After all, the other skiers, boaters and swimmers count on it. However, between the sun shining and the wind blowing in your face, you don't always see as well as you should. So it's no wonder that more and more waterskiers are investing in water sports sunglasses.
A great pair of water sports sunglasses, like Maui Jim sunglasses, will offer great protection against the sun's harmful UV rays, and yet still be versatile enough to perform all of your favorite water activities. Also, with rubber nose grips and saltwater effectiveness, you'll be looking sharp while watching your friends and family ski - and seeing sharply when it's (finally!) your turn to ski.
So before you head out to the boat, make sure you grab your pair of Maui Jim sunglasses. You'll not only be protecting your eyes, but you'll help be helping to protect everyone else in the water too.

Can eyes be damaged by over exposure to sun UV rays?

: Yes. People are very aware of the danger of UV rays on our skin etc but not everyone realizes that our eyes are also at risk. If your eyes are overexposed to sun rays, you might get a condition called photokeratitis. It's a bit like sunburn of the eye and can cause:

- Red eyes

- Gritty feeling in the eyes

- Extreme sensitivity to light

- Rarely - long term damage

Why is it important to wear sunglasses?

Here are five reasons you should absolutely wear sunglasses:1.Avoiding sunburn. It is possible to sunburn your eyes, resulting in redness, irritation, and a gritty feeling similar to sand in the eyes. Ouch!
2.Maintaining long-term eye health. Overexposure to UV rays can lead to cataracts and glaucoma. Choose sunglasses that screen out 75 to 90 percent of light and block at least 95 percent of UVA and 99 percent UVB radiation. Wearing a hat doesn't hurt either.
For three more reasons to get shady, read more.

3.Preventing wrinkles. Sunglasses keep you from squinting, and squinting can increase the wrinkles around your eyes .
4.Avoiding skin cancer. Sunglasses shield you from potential skin cancer of the eyelids. Just remember, the sun is even stronger in early morning and late afternoon.
5.Looking cool. Do you really need another reason?

How to Prevent Sun Damage??

The most important step to protect your eyes from sun damage is to wear the proper sunglasses whenever you are in the sun. Sunglasses come with different UV classifications, but you will need one that prevents preferably 100 percent of both UVA and UVB rays. If you are unable to wear sunglasses, wear a hat with a wide brim that covers your entire face. If you have suffered a sunburn on your eyelids, place a cold compress over your eyes for 15 minutes every hour until the burning has subsided, then place a coating of aloe over the eyelids.

Do I still need those "UV Protective" sunglasses

Yes! Most people believe that the darkness of the lens is what protects their eyes. The degree of darkness has no effect on UV rays. For adequate protection, you need to buy sunglasses that indicate they block 100 percent of the sun's UV rays.

In the bright sun light my garage door will close part way then reverse,i have keep pushing the button and it will move a little further. it only happens when the sun is shinning on it

I'm a license electrician, I can only think of two possiblities, either the sun is interfering with an infrared safety switch or it's causing your safety switch mechanism to overheat.
The most common is the floor level beam, if possible try to shade your safety switch plus a few inches beyond the lense.
If you have the touch strip on the bottom of the door I'm afraid I don't have a solution beyond replacing the strip and I'm not sure that will work.
