The cable box needs to be set to send different signals when using hd tv and standard tv. Usually a good setting would be 720p in hd and 480p in standard. The tv is working fine it is the cable box sending the signal. If you have another hdmi source such as a dvd player you may hook that up to show the tv is working just fine.
Your TV accepts HD inputs from HD cable boxes, video game systems, Bluray players etc. There is no adaptor needed just connect the HD device to the component inputs on the back of the TV which are GREEN/BLUE/RED in color. Please take a moment to rate my answer. Thanks..
HDTV ready means that your TV is capable of displaying a high definition picture. A standard television broadcast is shown in 480i. High definition starts at 720i. Only an HD ready TV is
capable of showing a picture that is 720 or above. So, if a person

no need to convert ,,i have same tv,,hdready just means it has no built in converter. You just need a HD converter box or a cable box or dvr that is also an HD receiver.
Your TV is an "HD-Ready" television. What this means is that your TV is ready to accept HD input from an outside source, but doesn't have the ability to produce the content itself. It is a monitor and does not have a digital tuner. Without a digital tuner (or for cable a QAM tuner) you will not receive OTA broadcast HD.
You need to purchase a High Definition capable set-top converter box. The converter box will have HD component out and may have HDMI out, either will feed your HD Ready TV.
The ;quick answer is YES, you will need a converter box to receive digital broadcasts. This set has only an analog tuner built-in. That is why it is HDTV "ready" (ready for you to add a tuner).
As for HDTV vs EDTV it is a matter of resolution. Your set is capable of EDTV resolution, which is better than SDTV (standard definition TV) but not quite as good as HDTV. With a digital tuner you will be able to view all digital programming, even HD, and it will look excellent, though not quite as sharp as a set with higher definition.

On any High Def TV, the reciever you need for this set, which does not have a HD receiver in it, is half the equation. Most HD channels have some HD content mixed with SD content on the same channel. SD content on HD signal from cable or satellite tends to be slightly blocky due to the native signal resolution and the resolution of HD (1080i/p or 720i/p).
