I think I have the same tv. Its a philips 50 in projection tv.
When we turn it on its a blank black screen with no sound. When we go to turn it off the picture will pop up for a moment as it turns off. We left the television unplugged for a couple of days and we decided to plug it up today and it worked for a few minutes and then went back to black screen with no sound. And it does show the picture as it is being turned off. Do you have any idea of how to fix this that won't cost alot of money?

Common problem with the older projection Magnavox TV set. The opto IC chip has failed. Try www.magnavoxhelp.com - They have instructions and kits on their site.

Do you have high voltage? Check by turning up one of the screen controls to see if you have retrace lines.(pinstripe diagonal lines across the screen) If present turn the screen control back down until the lines just disappear. Check diodes 6003, 6012, 6025, and resistor 3669. If you don`t get a retrace line by turning up the one of the screen controls, check for missing voltages or shorted components in the horizontal output and power supply circuits. Note: Philips TV`s can be tricky even for experienced technicians. Good luck
You have no high voltage, like many in this forum, this model of Philips has some of the same problems. Look around here you may find the answer to your set. If not check Vertical IC, TDA8177, audio ic on signal board up front on left. check Power supply first for blown fuse, 1000, 2004, 1300, 1900 etc. No sound or pic means something is open. Does set has L E D lights on front of set?
A chirping sound usually means that one of the secondary supplies has shorted, most likely the horizontal output transistor. The power supply "chirps", which is the sound it makes when it protects itself from drawing too much current. The set should be serviced by someone with experience in Philips projection TV'.
This is a common problem with older Philip Magnavox projection sets. Over time one of the IC chips on the main power board begins to fail. You can find replacment chips and repair instructions on www.magnavoxhelp.com.
