I seriously can't stand those motorola routers specially since they have to reboot themselves after every change.

Unplug the power from the router, hold the reset button in and plug the power back. Keep holding the reset button for 30 seconds. That should restore it back to factory settings. Plug one machine to the router and try to access the admin console. if memory serves me correctly, the user name is admin and password is motorola.

I need to use my telstra thomson TG782T modem on a different network how do i reconfigure it??

You need to contact your 3rd party service provider for the configuration settings for their network.
If you cannot change the settings on the Thomson modem then maybe the firmware is set to Telstra's network and cannot be changed. In this case you need to use the recommended modem suggested by your 3rd party service provider.

How did my linksys router's ssid change when i got a new modem

I haven't a clue? Reset the device to default settings and reconfigure. Use this procedure, if you need it, to reconfigure, update the firmware if applicable: http://support.linksys.com/en-us/support/routers/WRT54G AND this: http://www.columbia.edu/acis/networks/aptnet/linksys/

Wireless security

I think you should upgrade the firmware on your router.
After upgrading the firmware reset the router and reconfigure it manually.
I will also suggest you to create a new wireless network and use security modem WPA.
Try to connect to the new wireless network and see if that works.

How do you reconfigure when you change network provider? Can this be done remotely?

Since the network provider is change you need to reconfigure it back by running the setup disc for it to detect and setup with the new configuration settings for it.But if you're not aware about those settings you can contact your provider to get the needed settings for it.

I want to make sure my wireless signal is secure. How do I do this?

I assume that you have a wireless router that is connected to your Motorola cable-modem.

Connect to the web-server "inside" the router, and configure the wireless network:
* set an SSID -- the "name" for your network
* set an encryption-level -- use 'WPA' or 'WPA2'
* set a password for your network

Now, your wireless communications between your computer and your router will be encrypted, i.e., "secure".

Also, having a password keeps other computers out, if their owners do not know the password.

I dont know the key

You will need to check the wireless settings of the router .
Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable?
If not then connect 1 computer to the router and open the router set up page. Once you open the router set up page, you will be able to find the wireless network key.
Use that password to connect to the wireless network

Motorola SBG900 Assign network address to computer

I guess your modem router was already configured well since it worked already previously. It seems that your motorola router is set to broadcast dynamic IPs (DHCP enabled) and your last connected Pc and laptop were configured with static IP. Please check your "network connection" setting and make sure it is set to "Obtain IP automatically"

Modem router

I can tell that your network topology is not the most complicated ever.So u ve got 3 terminals,1 desktop pc and 2 laptop.Simple, reset your zyxel(from the button on the back) and reconfigure the Local area interface connection(ip & subnet mask for the zyxel),reconfigure your internet connection,(WAN zyxel interface) in case the zyxel is your Internet gateway too.Third, make sure NAT & Firewall are up and running(usually are by default) Finally, reconfigure the WiFi interface with the correct SSID name & WEP key or whatever security you prefer.Write down the security pass for your wireless and you are done.Good Luck.

Reconfigure router

Changing settings on your computer does not affect your router, but since the other computers cannot pick up the signal, then there is something wrong here.. See if there is a reset button on the Motorola and press it for 30 seconds to see if the router resets to its original configuration. If not, then you need to hardwire your computer to the router and get into the config page. usually, to do this, you just open up a browser and in the address line, type in the Default Gateway Address (usually this is 192.168.1.1).

To find the DG for your LAN:

Start > Run > cmd (ok)

From the Command Shell type:

ipconfig /all > ip.txt
notepad ip.txt

This should open a window with all your IP information in it. you will find a line called Default Gateway.. this is the address (probably 192.168.x.x) that you put in your Browser Window Address Line to access the configuration page of the router..
