Kenmore 44102 Front Load Washer Logo
Posted on Nov 05, 2010

I have a Kenmore [2005]front load washer that vibrates severely when in high spin and is quite noisy. I have had the top panel, back panel, and bottom front kick panels off and I can not find any obvious problem. The belt, weights, springs and shocks all seem good. When in wash or tumble the only noise is water ,cloths and a slight swiping noise from the rubber at the door to drum. Could you please help?

You may need to change the bearing on the drum easy way to check is while the door is open try to manually spin it with your hand if you hear a grinding sound then the bearing is gone

Excessive vibration in spin cycle

Be sure the washer is on a solid surface, no plywood or skid platforms. Then be sure to lock in the front levelling legs.

Bearing Follow Up

it does seem a bit odd that vibration and out of balance are ascribed to bearings. normally when bearings go, the symptom is just noisy bearings.
vibration can be from several sources
if the spin cycle does not ramp up to speed ie does not work up to spin speed but goes straight into spin, then there will be vibration
if shock absorbers are worn, there will be vibration.
if the washer is not solid onto the floor there will be vibration.
if the floor is a suspended floor, there can be quite severe vibration. some modern floors (in the UK at any rate) are made from a form of chipboard called weyrock. with joist spacing greater than in the past and with weyrock as the floor cladding, quite severe vibration can result

Whirlpool LHW0050PQ Front Loading Washer VERY NOISY during spin cycle

remove the top access panel 3 screws in top rear.
now look around and push on the drum from top
it has suspension shocks and springs like your car they should resist any movements.
look/wiggle the concrete balance blocks , no cracks or loose.
inside the tub are the arm solid /not loose.
run it with the top open what do you see/hear and where
look under the rubber flap in front did anything get under the tub

yes. the solinoid or wax motor (depending on which switch you have) has fail and is not telling control that the door is locked. replacing the switch will fix it
