Follow this steps 1)go to this link 2)enter your product name/number 3)select your product 4)select your operating system 5)select driver audio 6)click on download button 7)run downloaded file 8)install driver 9)restart your pc
Did you get the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB site?
If not then - You need to download the drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: - www.compaq.com/country/cpq_support.html I suggest you install SP3 it is the latest service pack and contains the latest security fixes.
If your using a card take it out until you have XP installed.
Go into your bios and disable all your audio settings until you have XP installed.
Check and see if your audio is even compatible with XP.
Disconnect the any external devices that are connected to the audio input until XP is installed.
