Placing Sppedstream Modem 4200 in bridge mode

I am a new windstream customer and I want to connect my Speedstream 4200 modem to my D-Link router. I have spent over 9 hours on the phone with Windstream "tech" support (over fifteen calls) asking them to put my modem in bridge mode so I can connect my router. I also spoke to D-Link tech$ support who advised me that my modem is yet to be bridged and requested I contact windstream. I would love to know if I can bridge the modem from my location. Thanks for your help.

Windstream uses dynamic router configuration scripts to remove that option from the menu, so we need another solution.

Http://192.168.254.254/brgmode.html ...or if they have the gay firmware >.> go to http://speedstream/brgmode.html then click apply....now set your router to log in with your user information with a PPOE login...if your like me and using the dlg-4500 just go to setup and do internet wizard to set up easily...then your ready to go... it can take up to 10 minutes for your router to configure so give it time..and if it doesn't seem like it's working in that time...try cycling your power then check again...and if still not working, do a hard reset (hold reset till lights alternat from green to red) to reset to factor default (do it for your router too becfause it will still be set to sign into your isp for you)

Do an ipconfig to determine your IP address, 192.168.2.10, look at the gateway & that is the IP address of the modem so - browse to 192.168.2.1/brgmode.htm - apply & reboot the modem. now you can enter the connection credentials into your router or network connection - PS the Pwr LED does not alternate between red & green when the reset button is pressed - depends on firmware revision perhaps? just remember to hold the reset button for 4s, holding it for too long (as someone mentioned) will bypass the reset.

Try THIS document. particularly page 35

Important! If you switch to Bridge mode, you will lose access to the Web management interface and can only return to Router mode by resetting the Router to factory defaults.

Make sure that you have configured all other parameters as required first

To reset the Router:

1. Using the tip of a ballpoint pen or unfolded paperclip, press and hold the Reset button located on the bottom of the router. The pwr LED will blink red once, indicating that the reset has begun.

2. Continue depressing the Reset button for four seconds or until the pwr LED begins to blink alternating red-to-green.

3. Release the Reset button.

To cancel the reset:
Continue depressing the Reset button for longer than 10 econds. The pwr LED will return to green, and the action will be cancelled.

Plug your speadstream modem into your router via ethernet cable. Make sure router and modem are powered on. Once you have conected the two and the power is on just push and hold the reset button on the modem for the count of five. Your modem has now been bridged with your router....It worked for me and I have the same modem just different router. I hop this helps you good luck :)

How do i acces my modem to get it out of bridge mode to use it without a router

Hi paintballa12!

Here's the link for yor modem's userguide..

http://www2.windstream.net/downloads/links/SpeedStream211.pdf

Normally, all dsl modems can be "unbridged" byr resetting it to factory state.. But that would mean you have to save you DSL username & password again..

Check page 38 for setting modem to non-bridge mode..

Hope this helps..

Static Ip with Speedstream 4200 Modem

I am assuming here with the way you have it set up your getting an internet connection.
what you saying i understsand mostly so i'll see if i can help you
first of all you have speedstreem modem that connects to you isp, this is assign your internet address from the isp if you paid for a static IP it would be in here, if not it's assiged by a dhcp from your isp company so if you if turn it off or have a power loss for anymore than 5-15min your ip changes.
now your modem then connects into your belkin router this as well as your modem it's prob set up as dhcp so it wants to issue each computer with an internal address of 192.168.0.X the reason for this is so it knows where to send the incomming information to what computer.
no matter what computer your using the address that goes over the internet will be the one assigned to modem from internet provider so if this need to be static IP to run your game server you will have contact your internet provider for an address.
but you may be confussing the issue a little, my suggestion to you would be:
1. go to your connections on each computer
2. right click on the lan connection choose properties
3. go to internet protocol (TCP/IP) then click properties
4. then click on obtain ip automatically and obtain dns automatically
this will remove the static windows address you may have put in.
try this and see if you can get you game or game server will work.
btw you may have to reboot your computers after this to get be sure to get the new address.

If you will have the new modem and the same problem will occur, then you can say that it could be a fault with the phoneline or if it is with the old modem.

Speedstream modem 4200

put the modem in bridge mode and then connect a DSL/cable router to it...you'll have to configure the PPOE if its DSL... Cable is a little easier because there usually is a MAC authientication not username and password...plug dsl/cable router into cable modem...turn both off for about aminute then turn modem on first then router... Be careful most routers with wireless have it enable with no security by default...turn it off or set securty (wirelss that is)
