A possible fix for the Alps problem
Your Alps pointer problem is probably driver related. To fix it:
1. Open Windows Explorer
2. Right click on Computer & choose properties
3. Open Device Manager (Admin password may be required)
4. Under Mice & other pointing devices, right click Alps pointing-device & choose Update driver software
5. Choose Search automatically & it will download and install the latest signed driver from the windows repositories & hopefully that will fix that problem.
If you are running Winsows Vista try running windows update service. Either way go to the web site for you're mouse & download the latest driver for you're mouse. If you did not find a an updated driver, open control panel, open the mouse icon & try adjusting the scroll function for the mouse. Still not good?
Open control panel. Uninstall the mouse driver. (Restart the system). Now re-install the software for the mouse. (Restart the system). Working yet?
If non of these have helped, try another mouse with a scroll wheel.

Same issue here. Using Alps Vista driver version 7.2.302.101 from Toshiba on Windows 7 RC (build 7100). Periodically the touchpad driver just dies and I can no longer use the scroll function until I restart.
