Compaq presario 615 does not display when switched on.

Need a bit more info. "displaying"? Describe what happens when you try to boot after unplugging, removing battery , leave battery out.

BIOS does the screen fail in BIOS< no OS running?
power on hit ESC, F10 or what it told you to hit for 11 years.
does BIOS work
that button top left is the standby sleep switch .
if bad , no sure what will happen, but something wrong will.
the aCID TEST IS BIOS.
works on demand all the time or not.


LAMPS:
the back lamp is dead, CCFL
all do, on all old screens 2010 and older
the magic year is 2010 as that year LED phased in.
see? use flash light see, that data there? do you'?
no sure what button you are pressing?
an 11 year old Laptop 2006, so CCFL is there
test those.
for sure use a flashlight.(test)
and see if there is data if see that, the CCFL tubes dead, there inverter is dead, or the power to it or out of it is cut.

hit the fn key in blue and the f-button above number keys with the little monitor icon it will switch for internal to external display

Probably a problem with either the inverter or the cathodes, they need to be replaced. Though it could be a loose cable connection.

have you tried plugging in the laptop to a pc monitor ?? this will tell you if its your screen or there are other problems with the laptop please let us know if this helps ok

1. Check if your battery is fully charge or if there is power in your Compaq Presario 900.
2. Check for defect in your power switch.

check whether the display is coming on monitor or not through the vga port, if the display is there then its the problem of display panel, if not then the fault is in motherboard of the laptop

Try fn key, And LCD/TV Or LCD/VGA usually marked on 1 of The number ( Numerical ) Or F Keys.

Remember to switch back before closing down, Otherwise the laptop will try to look for the projector.

The other option is to see, which device is set to boot first from the systems Bios.
