Hotpoint FAZ50 Frost Free Freezer

We have had this freezer for 4 years, all of a sudden it is not freezing and the food in the top three drawers has defrosted and I have had to throw it away and new food put in will not freeze. I can hear the motor/ or fan running but it seems to switch off when the door is opened and then on again when it is shut. The food in the bottom ofthe freezer is still frozen, but I honestly expect it to soon defrost. I have turned it up to no.5 and fast freeze but this does not work.(I put some ice cubes in the top drawer two days ago, they are still watery) Can someone suggest solution please

Thank you

Just wanted to add one more thing to my question, the freezer is now making a cracking sound (like ice cubes being cracked out of an ice tray) I have only just noticed this, would the solutions above still be of help.

    Many thanks

If this is a frost free unit as I received it posted you may have a problem in that it is not frost free. The cooling coil may be frozen over stopping air circulation. There would be a defrost timer located somewhere in back. Located the clutch head screw and turn it clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one audible click. That should put the system into the defrost mode. Wait about 30 minutes in which time the system should return to the cooling mode (usually 18-22 minutes). If it does not restart the compressor after that time turn the clutch head screw clockwise again and it should restart. If you had to turn the screw the second time it would indicate a bad defrost timer. In this case replace the timer.

I have a hotpoint freezer fza34 The red high temp

it could be that your fridge, freezer setting is not turned up high enough to keep the freezer cold enough.turn it up to setting number 5 at least and if that dont do it u could have a faulty thermostat.have it checked by a engineer.

Top shelves in freezer not freezing food. Also no ice from ice maker. Seems cold air has stopped coming out of top vent

We had the same problem with our refrigerator just yesterday. Defrosting (even tho frost-free) cleared up the airflow problem-- If it's frost-free, when it defrosts enough to allow air flow, the automatic defrost can take over. Cause was stored food blocking the vent between the freezer and lower part of fridge.

Things you can do to cut down on frost.
1.make sure all seals fit flush to frame.
2.use a thermometer and set freezer to -18c(beef will keep upto 12months).
3.wrap all food as airtight as poss.
3.do not overfill, leave space for air flow through drawers/shelves.
4.defrost every 2/3 months in humid conditions using clorine bleach to clean interior, and dry thoroughly.(leave door open to dissipate clorine gas.)

Both Lights flashing and fridge not getting cold

I turned the fridge and freezer off using the circular dials, I then turned the unit off at the mains. Left it for a few minutes and then turned the power back on. I then turned the circular dials to "max" and then depressed the super cool and super freeze buttons to turn this facility on. This time they came on normally (not flashing) and no alarm sounded. The fridge and freezer then started to get cold. Once the unit had been running for several hours I then turned the dials to the 3/4 mark and depressed the super cool and super freeze buttons again to turn them off. Over night the fridge and the freezer appear to be working properly so I hope that my problem is solved. Maybe the unit just needed to "settle" before being switched on?

Not all shelves freezing Alarm on

If this is not a frost free unit. I say replace it. I don't believe in recharging a deep freeze. You can never really trust them again. The food inside is worth more than the freezer. If this is a frost free unit, See if the fan inside is working. This can also be a defrost system proplem such as a timer and well worth fixing.

Top half not freezing

If this is not a frost free unit , it probably has a freon leak. This is usually not worth fixing in a deep freeze. If it is a frost free unit the fan could be bad. This is an easy repair.
