I am using the conditional sum under the tools tab in Exel Xp, I am trying to count several different choices in 4 columns, each time I use it a pop up appears with "End Bug" and Help. It is working some of the time for some selections. Please help or help me with a formula that counts Age Gender Race Risk.

On sheet 4, select cell A1 and press "=" (don't press enter key).
Select the sheet 1 tab and click on the cell at the top left corner of your sheet 1 data. (dont press enter yet.) Press the "+" sign and then click on the Sheet 2 tab. Select the cell on sheet 2 at the top left corner of the data table on that sheet. Now press "+" again. Now select the sheet 3 tab and select the top left corner of the table there. Finally, press the enter key and you will be back on sheet 4. Cell A1 on sheet 4 will show the sum of the first cells of the tables on sheets 1-3.
Here's how to copy the formula on sheet 4/A1 to the other cells:
Select cells A1:A12 on sheet 4. (in other words, highlight all the cells that will become the top row of the table on sheet 4.) Now press Ctrl-R. This will copy the formula in cell A1 to all the highlighted cells to the Right of it. Finally, highlight the area that will become your table on sheet 4 (12 colums, 10 rows). Press Ctrl-d. This will copy the formulas in the first row Down to all the cells in the highlighted area below.

I'm trying to figure out a 3x3 magic square where the rows equal 21 18 10 and the columns equal 15 24 13 using the numbers 1-9

I don't think you can do it! Could you check your numbers.

If we are using the numbers 1-9 once and only once in a 3x3 magic square, the sum of the rows + the sum of the columns should be 90, since 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9 in the rows adds up to 45 and 1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9 in the columns adds up to 45.

When trying to solve, the magic number seem to be the sums 24 and 10. To get 24, the only three numbers that add to 24 are 7 + 8 +9. Similarly to get 10, the lowest numbers re 1 and 2 and the smallest big number to use is 7. I then ran out of number trying to get 21, 13 and 15 sums.

Good luck,

Paul

Conditional formating should be able to this. But how is your data organized? (Column headers, Row headers etc.)

HOW TO USE LINREG(AX +B)

The post addresses several questions
  1. 1-Var statistics and standard variations
  2. 2-Var stats (calculating the statistical values)
  3. Regressions (linear or otherwise)
I assume you know the theory. I will show you the key strokes for 1-Var statistics and 2-Var statistics
Press [MODE][3:STAT] [1:1-VAR]. You are ready to enter values in the X column.
Enter a number and press [=]. Cursor jumps to second number to enter.
Keep entering numbers and pressing [=] till all numbers are in. Press the [=] key after the last one.
Press [AC] key to clear the screen.
Press [SHIFT] [STAT] (above digit 1.) then [5:Var]. Screen displays the statistical variables 1:n ;2: x bar; 3: x sigma n; 4:x sigma n-1.
Press the number corresponding to Referable you want, ex 1:n . The variable appears on screen. Press [=] and it will be displayed.
To display another variable press [SHIFT][STAT][5:Var][ 1,2, 3, or 4] .

- To access the sum of squares sigma x^2 and the sum of data sigma x press[SHIFT][STAT][4:SUM] then [1: for sigma x^2] or [2: for sigma x]. Press [SHIFT][STAT][6:MinMax] to access minX and maxX.

To perform 2 variable statistics you press [MODE][3:STAT] and any of the other regression options (except 1:1-Var). A two column template opens where you enter the X and Y values. When finished entering data, press [SHIFT][STAT][5:Var]. to access the different statistics. As I assumed above, you should be able to recognize what each variable means.

REGRESSIONS

To use the regression a+bx,
1. Select STAT mode : [MODE][3:STat] [ENTER][2:a+bx]
2. Fill the X and Y values in the template.
3. Press [SHIFT][STAT][7:Reg]
You have several options 1:A to get coefficient A, 2: B to get coefficient B, 3:r etc.

To access each one, you have to press [SHIFT][STAT][7:Reg] anew.

To access the various sums, you press [SHIFT]{STAT][4:Sum] and you can select Signa_x, Sigma_x^2, etc..

How do i find the variance if i'm given the x

Hello,
Set the [Mode] to [3:STAT]. You are offered the choices
1:1-Var
2:A+BX
3:__+cX^2
etc.
If you want to do 1-Var statistics, you press 1:1-Var. A column template opens where you put the X values. If a value is repeated you enter it several times. (there is no frequency column.)
When you enter all data you press [SHIFT][STAT]

You have several choices among them
4: SUM to get SigmaX^2 and Sigma X
5: VAR to get n, the mean X bar, the sample and population standard deviations
6:MINIMAX to get MinX and MaxX
7: Distr the Distributions.

If you want to perform 2-Var statistics
You press [MODE][STAT] and select one of the Regression models
2:A+BX
3:__+cX^2
etc.
The selection of any of the 7 regression models, opens a two-column template where you enter the X and Y values
When finished press [SHIFT][STAT]
The choices offered are
  1. Type takes you back to select type of statistics to perform
  2. Data To edit the data in the columns
  3. Edit To insert or delete a value
  4. SUM To access the calculated values of SigX^2,SigX,SigY^2,SigY,SigXY,SigX^3, SigX^2Y, SigX^4
  5. Var : To access the calculated values n, Xbar, Sample STD for x, S STD for Y, Pop STD for X, and Pop STD for Y
  6. MinMax : MinX, MinY, MaxX, MaxY
  7. Reg: Gives you the regression coefficients for the particular regression model you want to test.
The mean is represented by X bar.
The variance is the SQUARE of the Standard Deviation.
Hope it helps.
