This could be because of 2 things....

first, the on/off switch may have been accidentally hit and is forcing the machine to stay on at all times.

Second, the relay in the unit may be defective and stuck in the on position. Less than 5 years should be under warranty. The easy way to tell if it is this problem tho is to unplug one of the low voltage wires from the side of the unit. These are usually located near the power cord going into the machine. If the machine stays running it is the Relay. However if the machine shuts off, the wiring in the vac system may be crossed out somewhere causing the machine to stay on.

I have the same problem and have figured it is the relay. Can this be changed easily? The vac is from 1995 so perhaps it is worth replacing now?

Have a prolux central vacuum. It won't turn off. I have to unplug the unit to shut it off.

If the on/off switch has failed, I would get it repaired under warranty by firstly contacting the supplier and obtaining a returns note or warranty repair notification.

My main power breaker for the house, shuts off after I have used the Electrolux Centralux vac for a short period of time - why does this happen?

This is usually an indication that the motor is going bad. Motors in central vacuum systems are very easy to replace. Most motors can be purchased online.

Nutone CV353 does not shut off, think it is the relay board

You probably have a stuck relay. You can try tapping with medium force next to where the low voltage wires are attached to the unit using the handle end of a hammer. Even if this works it's time to replace the circuit board. Take the unit to a local vacuum repair center for service.

Your relay is bad. This is very easy to change out yourself. There are several websites that sell this part online. Some websites offer free tech support.

Motor

If it tripped the reset again, I would probably agree with you. Check out centralvacuum.com for another motor. They aren't the cheapest, but they have excellent support. Good Luck!!
