Go to the SETTINGS menu and select the MAP INFO menu. Make sure that the check box by the uploaded map that you want to use is checked. If the map is not checked, then only the base map will appear. This allows different maps to be installed simultaneously.
I too have a Garmin Quest and yesterday felt like throwing it against the wall because of the above problem. I found the solution eventually. When you download the maps from the Garmin Maps page, where you select the maps download, make sure that the checkbox to "Include route calculation data" is ticked before downloading your maps. Also make sure that the total memory required for the number of maps selected does not exceed the available memory on your Quest. If you try to fit more information into your Quest than it can receive then you are bound to have some problems. The Quests seems to have different memory specifications. According to the USA spec the memory is only 128mb, the Garmin site says 115mb and the box that my Quest came in says that it has 243mb.
You can run into these problems when using non OEM toner cartridges. It sounds like anything that is printed in a light gray is not printing correctly.
I also had the google maps print issue on my HP3030 and fixed it by setting the "Default Quality" under "Copy Setup" from the HP3030 menu to "Photo" from "Test".
That's a hardware setting on the HP 3030:
Menu/Enter > Copy Setup > Default Quality > Photo
