I have a RH1858 DVD Recorder (same as the RH1777) that also started
giving this same message "PLEASE WAIT" - now I'm fortunate that I work
with a lot of electronic boards and have found in the past that a lot of
Laptops fail for no reason at all...................
The ONLY reason I could assume that the DVD unit has failed (LG says the Mainboard's bust and needs replacement) is heat
Somehow lack of airflow or cooling could affect the SMC (Surface Mounted
Components) and the solder joints can become brittle, which then causes
de-lamination...... hence the problem.
Stripped the machine open and started pressing on various IC's on the
controller board (right side of the machine where the HDD and DVD
connects to) - each one on it's own while applying power to the
unit............ after about 10min's I hit the right component and the
machine initialised. Pressure on the components and PCB allowed the unit
to work 100% - release the pressure and voila the unit stops working!
Stripped the board out and used a "heat-blower" used for SMC's... and
basically re-flowed all the components and solder connections on the
PCB.
Re-installed the board and machine now works 100%!
All you need is to get someone that has a bit of experience and knows
how to re-flow the board with heated air - DO NOT USE a normal soldering
iron...!
Hope this info helped!
