Chamberlain 1/2-HP Whisper Drive Belt Drive Garage Access System Logo
Posted on Nov 04, 2010

I have a chamberlain whisper drive garage door opener. When I open the door and it reaches the top it starts making a loud noise. It's like the motor is still trying to pull the door up but it can't because the door has reached the top. I have to push the button to get the noise to stop. What do I do to get it working properly?

SOUNDS LIKE THE UP LIMIT IS EITHER OUT OF ADJUSTMENT OR NOT WORKING.

TURN IT ABOUT THREE TURNS COUNTER CLOCKWISE. THIS SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO MAKE IT NOT OPEN ALL THE WAY. THEN ADJUST IT 1/2 TURN AT A TIME THE OTHER WAY UNTIL IT GETS CLOSE THEN SMALLER ADJUSTMENTS TILL YOU ARE HAPPY WITH WHERE IT STOPS.

HOPE THIS HELPS

Just installed new Chamberlain motor but makes loud snap when door opens and closes about 3 inches from ground?

Do you have a security system in your home? Sometimes the door shut sensors get out of alignment and the door strikes the sensor. This is the exact same problem I had with my door.

The motor runs but it only opens a few inches and slowly goes back down its a chamberlain whisper drive model HD900D

Hi. I have seen this before, although usually not from chamberlain garage door openers.

Pull the release cord that unlocks the door from the opener, and manually open the door ALL the way open.

Then lock back in place in the open position.

Then use automatic opener to shut door.

It will close very slowly, but should close all the way.

Then, open the door again using the remote, and the door will once again open slowly, this time it should open all the way.

Then close door with remote, and door should now close as it is supposed, with the proper speed.

The slow opening and shutting is the system position sensor resetting itself.

This is why your door is acting up.

I would also look up by the belt drive connects to the front of the garage door opening, to make sure there isn't any dirt, cobwebs, or other obstructions on the sensor that may cause it to re-close the way it does.

(Chamberlain 1/2 hp Whisper Drive garage door opener) the garage mounted opener will open the door, but none of the remotes now work. batteries have been changed already. Is there a way to reprogram the...

If the wall button will operate the door up but none of the devices do then look at the wall button. Find the lock button and push it for 2 seconds and then try the remotes again. This is your vacation lock. You can get a manual at chamberlain.com. Now if the door does not open or close with the remotes you can reprogram them. Press the colored learn button on the motor head and then press the button on the remote. Repeat for each remote. If they fail to program you will need a new logic board. Thanks BB

Hi there. I have a Chamberlain Whisper Drive

I just had that problem this morning and the cause was that the springs that help hold the weight of the garage door were broken. This caused the garage door opener to raise the garage door a fe inches and then drop again. We called in a professional and $200 later we had new springs and everything works fine now.

You could always use "Belt Ease" from an Auto Parts store. It's made for squeeky belts.
