SOURCE: Hampton Bay Ceiling Fan Windward II

There is a 4 position (dip) switch on both the fan housing and the remote. Make sure these switches are set exactly the same and the remote will control the light and fan separately. If not, the remote may be getting interference on the preset frequency - try CHANGING the dip switches to a different setting and the remote should work.

SOURCE: Ceiling fan light flashes

There is a small part in the light kit of the fan connected to the lighting circuit. The part is relatively common to these fans and is most likely in yours as well. The sticker on the side of it shows model 98480X part number 98480-02. Clip the leads to remove this part and wire-nut the wires back together bypassing it (black/red to black and white to white). This will get your unit back to normal and the switches will still work. I spoke with Hunter and this part has nothing to do with the remote control features of the fan. It is a wattage limiter. If you attempt to put bulbs into the fan that are higher than the recommended wattage this unit steps the voltage down to prevent overheating and possible electrical issues. Removing it will not prevent the fan from functioning but you should be aware that it is in there by federal regulation requirement and without it you could risk electrical failure or fire if you put bulbs in that are too high a wattage. If you call the manufacturer to report the issue they will send you a new lighting housing for your unit which will have a new limiter in it and solve your issue as well. In my case I needed the light working so I bypassed it then requested the part. In the meantime I just made sure that the bulbs I was using were well within spec. In my case the limiter was just on the light, but depending on the model or how the wires were nutted together by your electrician if the fan was also nutted on after this device it would certainly have issues as your bulbs would now be limited to the total wattage of the bulbs and fan combined. Hope this helps all!

How do I know if the problem with my Hampton Bay Windward II fan is with the ceiling or with the remote. It worked fine for years and now all of a sudden it is hardly ever responding to the remote?

Did you try changing the battery? Unlikely to be the fan, but it could be the receiver.

Hampton Bay Fan 55295 remote control

I have the Hampton Bay Windward II Ceiling Fan SKU 523-127. I have replaced various parts over the years including the ballast, light shade, 9" 30-Watt Circline bulb and the remote.

Hampton Bay Windward II Ceiling Fan SKU 523-127 was sold by Home Depot, and manufactured by King of Fans.

King of Fans website is: http://www.kingoffans.com
This fan can be seen by clicking on Products --> Ceiling Fans --> Click on page 9 (at the bottom of the webpage) then click on the Windward II fan you will be able to get to the needed additional information.

After downloading and reviewing my fan's Owner's Guide, and reviewing the online FAQs, I called 1-800-330-3267, concisely described the problem, and ordered the parts needed with only the fan name and SKU.

I and am about to order more parts after suffering a power surge (The needed info was in the FAQs). My experience is great customer service and speedy delivery of the needed parts.

One of their FAQ's answers the question:

Where can I get parts for my ceiling fan?

You may call customer service at 1-800-330-3267 on Monday through Friday EST. When you call please have your UPC code available. If you do not have your owners manual, you may look on the top of the fan where you will see a silver or gold sticker. There you will find a UL number beginning with the letter E and located under the UL number is the UPC code. The UPC code consists of 12 numerical digits. From that information, the customer service representative will be able to determine if you are calling the correct company and determine the make and model of your product. If it is determined you are calling the wrong company, you will be given the correct number to call.
