If by "restore" you mean that you are reinstalling Windows onto the disk-drive, to restore Windows to the "as-shipped-from-the-factory" condition, then a failure of that operation can be caused by either of three conditions:

* I/O errors reading files from the CD/DVD disks (due to dust/fingerprints on the bottom of the disks),

* I/O errors writing files to the disk-drive,

* an intermittent problem with the computer's motherboard or RAM, causing "random" failures when using the computer.

So, on another computer, take the CD/DVD disks, and try to copy the entire contents (namely up to 4.7 GB) onto the 'C:' drive, watching for any "I/O errors" during the file-copy operation.
If the file-copy completes successfully, then the copy of the files can be deleted.

If no errors occur, then it's time to suspect that the disk-drive itself is failing.
Buy a new disk-drive, and disconnect the old disk-drive, and connect the new disk-drive,
and restart the "restore" operation. If the "restore" fails on the new disk-drive,
then it's time to suspect that the motherboard has a problem.

you might tick one box then return after its finished the first repair then return and tick the second box you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage this drive

I found that you get best results by ticking one box then returning after it has finished then tick the other box

then you restore it to its default status

Right click on usb drive select properties you will have an array of options

Select the hardware option then select your drive properties policies

restore defaults

In XP

Right click on your drive select properties then on customize restore Default in W 7

When I boot my Dell D600 it get a blue screen and i am not able to log into my computer

In this case, we need to reset the computer back to factory settings.
here we go...this process will cause data loss.
    1. Remove non-essential peripherals
    like
    a) Scanner
    b) Printer
    c) Modem or Network cables
    d) Personal Digital Assistant (PDA)
    e) USB flash drive or other external Hard Drive
    f) Any other external devices (e.g., USB-attached devices)
    g) Remove the computer from the docking station, if you are using one.
    2. Turn on the computer.
    3. When the Dell splash screen appears during the computer startup process, press and hold <Ctrl> and then press <F11>. Then, release both keys at the same time.
NOTE: Some systems like Inspiron Mini 9 (910) do not support System Restore as they do not have <F11> nor any substitute.
    4. In the Dell PC Restore by Symantec window, click Restore. Alternatively, press <Tab> to highlight Restore, and then press <Enter>.
    5. When a warning message appears stating that all data will be lost, click Confirm, or press <Tab> to highlight Confirm and then press <Enter>.
The Progress window will appear. Once the restore process starts, Dell PC Restore by Symantec usually takes about 8 to 10 minutes to finish.
When the restore process is complete, the following message will appear:
The system recovery process was successful.
    6. Click Finish or press <Tab> to highlight Finish and then press <Enter> to restart the computer.
The software is now installed as it was when the computer was first received.

Media test failure, No bootable device, insert boot disk.

Media test failure, no bootable device error message means the hard disk has failed, therefore cannot boot up.
If reseating the hard drive doesn't fix your problem then replace the faulty drive and install Windows on the new drive to get the computer operational again.

Seagate 160GB SATA Hard Drive Installation.

Hi, Was the original 20Gb HD also a SATA or was it installed as an IDE? Try installing a fresh clean Windows rather than the restore disc. However, you will need the drivers for the SATA 160Gb and press F6 when Windows installers ask you to. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information. Hope this be of some idea/help. Good luck and kind regards.
