* Make sure the laptop is using the AC adapter
* Turn on or restart the computer
* When the Dell logo appears, press F12 immediately. If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Microsoft Windows desktop, and then shut down the computer and try again
* Select Diagnostics from the menu and press Enter
* If a failure is detected, the computer stops and beeps, press Y to retest the component that failed :)

shutting off when? Shutting off immediately when you try to start it? Shutting off after it has run for a while?

If it is shutting off after it has run for a while, then it is probably running hot. If you try to restart it immediately it will not boot. If you let it cool off for a while then it will boot successfully (definitely a sign of running hot).

Things that make a computer run hot:
1) Dust in the vents, fans, cpu & heat sink and all inside the computer.
2) Fan not working
3) The Thermal Paste on the cpu and heat sink has either dried up or is too thin to keep it cool.

If it shuts down immediately after it has been sitting for a while then it's not running not and your system has some other problem.

Some cars have new system in the computer that lets the radio function for 20 minutes after the key is turned off and no doors have been opened, system should shut down immediately after you open a door

Probably the easiest way to resolve this issue is by following the steps outlined below.

1. Shut down the computer.
2. Turn the computer on and immediately press F8 repeatedly until you get the "Advanced Boot Options" menu.
3. use the down arrow to select "Safe Mode" and press enter.
4. Window is should start with a "Help" window.
5. In the help window there is an underlined "What is System Restore?"
Click on that and "Click to open System Restore"
6. click on that and a new window comes up recommending restoring to a previous state.
7. Click ok and the operating system should restore your computer successfully and reboot into normal mode.

Could be a few different possibilities-
Power Supply failing
Overheating Issue
Virus-

first thing i would do is to try booting the computer up into safe mode with networking. to do this:

Shut off your computer and turn it back on- immediately start pressing the F8 key repeatidly until you get an advance boot menu- then go to safe mode with networking and press enter on your keyboard- See if Windows operates normally while in safe mode- If so then issue is probably a Virus.

it may be overheat or check the cables it will properly connect or not(may be loose connection or damaged).

My MMP8567 screen read ''boot error shutting down''.

Update the firmware. Download directly from Memorex site, Support section.

Everytime I plugged it in to the computer the computer would find it but then it would disappear almost immediately.
I downloaded the Updater program from Memorex but it couldn't find the player.
The directions from Memorex said ''Hold down the play button and plug in usb cable.'' Another set of Memorex directions said, ''Hold down the power button and plug in usb cable.'' Neither worked for me.

SOLUTION: I finally held down the LOCK/UNLOCK button and plugged in the usb cable. My computer found the player immediately and a software driver window popped up asking for a driver. I let windows search the internet and it found and installed the driver. The driver it was looking for was: ''player recover device class driver''

After windows confirmed it recognized my mp3 player I started up the Firmware update program and was able to update the player.

I have a different computer now

Shut it down anyway and immediately turn it ack on and do a thourough cleanup. update your virus control and run it> go to Tools (at top) of screen and then internet options and clear your history and cookies>go to all programs> accessories>system tools.clean disc and do that little chore.. If you have a registry cleaner program run that also. When you are all finished try shutting the computer down again, This time if it doesnt work, go and ahead and shut it off anyway and turn it back on and do a defrag (same place as clean disc.
