Both black go to the switch. Power in - black to switch / white to white from motor.
From motor - black to switch / white to white from power cord
The black wire from the power hooks to the off end of the switch and the black wire from the motor hooks to the on end. Third post is not used. The two white wires are connected to each other with a small twist on wire nut.

Testimonial: "I think Oreck used the white connector on the lighted switch for power. I must have tripped the breaker a dozen times with a short."

How to properly wire the cord at the switch on Oreck XL Pilot Series? Wired it wrong during a cord replacement at the switch. I couldn't remember which prong to put the black wiring on. Switch has 3...

Joanne, when you take the screws out of the handle, and take the handle half off to expose the switch, the black wire from the handle cord goes on the front terminal on the switch that is by itself. The black wire from the power cord will go on the terminal that is facing up as you look down on it. Hope this helps!

I need a good wiring diagram for my Oreck xl vac

Chuck,
I do not have a diagram for you but I can tell you how they normally are hooked up. When you have the motor sitting in it's normal position the black wire from the power cord will attach to the terminal closest to where the cord comes in. There should also be a black dot next to the terminal. The two white wires will connect together and they will go on a terminal on the other side of the motor that also has a black dot next to it. The remaining black wire should connect to a terminal next to the white wires or at least on the same side of the motor as the white wires. Hope this helps you.

Ametek wiring diagram for a Oreck XL21 600 ECB

I cannot find a wiring diagram from where I am located right now, but I do know that the black wire coming from the power cord goes to the top side of the motor when you have it laying upside down with the cover off, and it will go to the tab towards the back of the vacuum. Sometimes they put a black dot beside the tab and if that is there you put your wires from the power cord on those. You will also have two wires coming from your light bar in front and the white wire will usually have a piggy-back terminal that your white wire from the power cord attaches to as well. If there are no black dots beside the terminal tabs the white wires will connect to the bottom terminal on the opposite side from the black power cord wire. It will usually be on the lower side of the motor as well. The black wire from the light bar will go on the remaining terminal tab as there is usually only three tabs on the motor. I will check back later this week to see if this has helped you and if not I should be able to get a diagram this weekend.

Need wiring schematic for ametek 119550

I had the same problem after not paying attention to the connections when replacing my motor. I spent days searching for information and only found several non-answers with small photos that no one can read.I contacted Oreck for wiring information. They explicitly stated that they can't provide any wiring information for safety and liability reasons.

I found the Ametek schematic which shows the LINE and TAP locations on the motor.

Note: I have a 2600HH XL with 2 headlights.

Connect as follows:

3A, LINE: White lead w/piggy back terminal from light harness #1 & white lead from the power harness to the piggy back terminal
2A, TAP: Black lead from light harness #1
3B, LINE: White lead w/piggy back terminal from light harness #2 & black lead from the power harness
2B, TAP: Black lead from light harness #2

GE on/off timer for a bathroom fan - switch has four wires Green - ground White - neutral Black - power Blue - lead My fan has two - white neutral and black lead I have tried...

I would guess that the black wire on the timer is the power in and blue is the power out to the fan (hook it to the black wire going to the fan) The other colors are right.

I had a loose wire in my Oreck XL motor. I took it

Lights are 12 volts.

The motor has taps on it to pull 12 volts rather than 120 volts for the lights, uses the motor as a transformer.

Should be black and white to the motor from the switch, believe the switch breaks the black wire. White wire should be neutral. I can't remember colors for the wires to the lights. Would expect it to be the white wire and then the "tap" wire to be red.

One crazy way to do it, is to hook up wires, leave the light bulbs out, turn on power, and check voltage at the bulb socket with a voltmeter. (This is one of those things they tell you on television to only let a professional do, do not attempt at home.)
