Question about Amana ACD2234HRS Side by Side Refrigerator

Open Question

Unit make a loud buzzing sound when i believe compressor tries to turn on. I replaced the two capacitors on the side of the compressor and the unit turned on and cooled down perfectly. Then in the middle of the night it started to do the same thing. I unplugged it while I was at work came home plugged it in and it got cool again but started making the same noise again. The fan continues to run but does not get cold again.

SOURCE: Loud Buzz upon starting

sounds like just a vibration caused by cols hitting the frame perhaps, sometimes a pull from underneath the unit on the condenser coils will rectify the problem(id give a pretty quick tug, . unit could just be settling into the floor or the house settling around it, vibrations are definitely annoying but usually no need for alarm

SOURCE: Compressor buzzes loud & frig does not get cold

ok one thing to check before you start purchasing a new compressor which at this point sounds like the problem. It might be that the hot tube has sprung a leak or the heat exchanger. Problem with on-line advice is that i can not see and put my hands on it.You have to check if you still have pressure on the system. If you do not have any pressure the compressor will run dry heat up and stop as the thermal resistance gets too big. I think there is a repair kit for the heat exchanger and or the hot tube.

SOURCE: Loud, continuous buzz from Imperial heavy duty commercial freezer

Sounds like bad compressor. Turn off t/stat. If buzz starts when you turn it on then that is what is wrong. May be under mfr wty. Call Maytag to find out.

SOURCE: frigidaire refrigerator compressor buzzes but won't start.

The compressor is seized it needs to be replaced log on to frigidaire.com and find a local service provider if you purchased prior to the end of 06 and if less than 5 years old it has warranty coverage on sealed system repairs. check your manual to be sure. you can try what it is called a hard start might work for a while it uses a larger capacitor to give a bigger kick upon start up.

Just replaced the capacitor, and reconnected. Turned power on and heard a buzzing sound from the condensor, then the fan turned on. the unit only runs for a few minutes then shuts off

The buzz is the compressor failing to start. The blue or purple wire from the compressor goes to herm on the capacitor. If it's wired right and does not stare the compressor is bad.

Fan motor is probably bad, if it is under 5 years old the parts are under warranty. Do not run the unit for very long without the fan working as it can damage the compressor.

It would be worth a try to put a new start capacitor on.Also check the compressor contactor for burt or pitted contacts and replace if needed.
If this is a three phase unit be sure you dont a one blown fuse in the disconnect box.

It sounds like the compressor isnt starting just because the lights on doesnt mean it is actually on.
If it is the compressor thats making the buzz heres what to look for when you start to hear the buzz does the fan slow down and then speed up after the buzzing stops? If it does your compressor is locked up you can try to replace the capacitor on the unit. If that dont work I wouldnt spend the money to replace the compressor too much money.

I need help with a buzzing sound in my air conditioner.

It is probably the compressor humming. They can make some funny noises especially on start for a while. If the unit is not cooling it may be the start capacitor or the comressor may be locked up.

Older t 30 won't start

I believe your capacitor or capacitors are going out. Or one of the three phases has popped a fuse.

If there is a fuse box for the unit, shut off the breakers on the wall to the unit and do a continuity test across each fuse.

If nothing is found, remove all motor capacitors and bring them into you local electric motor repair shop. Usually they will check capacitors for free.

This should do it.

Compressor problem?

The buzzing is your compressor trying to start. It is going off on internal overload caused by heating up of the motor windings. If you have an amp meter you could check the amp draw of the comp against the locked rotor amps listed on the tag You could try to have someone test your run capacitor, which looks like a can. Could be round or oval with wires coming off it. Or try a hard start capacitor and relay to bust it loose if compressor rotor is stuck. If that doesn't do it the comp is bad.

No cold in fridge or freezer: buzzing compressor

There is no start motor. If the brand of the compressor is a tecumpseh then it is most likely the problem and has a 5 yr warranty from the date of purchase. If it is an Embraco compressor I would try and overload and relay. They are all in one part sometimes called a start device.
