Invalid number I can send with no problems, but I have had several persons call me to tell me they have tried faxing 3 to 10 times with no sucess. My machine will ring and I can hear the fax tone and it will show that it is "Receiving" most times, however the person faxing will get "invalid number", or "connection error" or some other error message depending on their particular machine. At first I thought it was a "busy" problem, we send and receive in fairly high volume. Is this a Fax machine problem or is this a line problem? Our fax line is also the same line our internet is on. I would appreciate any input.

Better solution to dedicated fax line would be to make sure there is a DSL filter on the line.

Fax machines do not work well or at all on digital lines. They are designed for analog lines, like the standard phone company line. You may have to install a dedicated fax line from your tel. company.

Difficulty sending a fax

Hello. Please make sure your telephone line is plugged into the correct outlet.

Most fax machines typically allow you to plug the line (the cord that goes from the fax machine to the wall jack) and and a telephone (the telephone connects to the fax machine).

In order to fax correctly, you must plug the line into the jack with a block (looks like a 'T') marked on it. Do not plug the line into the jack marked with a phone hand set marked on it.

This shoulds in detail how to connect the line properly. For this printer the line cord must be plugged into the jack labelled "L"

This will show you how to actually send the fax. On your PDF View select page 42.

Fax not receiving regularly and not allowing me to send

Sorry to says this is not a problem with your HP All-In-One printer.
Because VOIP is a service which HP does not support, as the signals through VOIP is digital and the All-In-One only supports Anolog signals.
And that is the main reason that you are sometimes able to send and some times not.
Even if you call HP tech for support they will deny support and ask you to contact your VOIP service provider.
The best person to help you out in this problem is your VOIP service provider.
HP will recommed you to try reducing the speed and to check your fax functionality, but will not assure you of any sucess

Good Luck

When faxing, what is Error 387? Can fax other places, why not this place?

Specifically, error code 387 on that machine is : Try to send the fax at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. There is nothing wrong with your machine that I can tell from your description. It sounds like it is trying to handshake, fax term for connect, but does not complete. I had the same thing happen to me yesterday with some very important papers. I even called the person at the other end and they said they had been receiving faxes ok. Took me 4 tries but finally went through. It's just the phone lines. Keep trying. It can take several tries. If this helped please rate a big 4 fix ya. If you can't get through no matter how many times you try just post a comment and I'll be happy to come back and help you out.

Cannot send faxex

Did you try to send a fax to a different number? Also are you sending to a local number? Most send problems are poor phone line conditions. If you have tried to send to several different numbers with no success, then you can assume that the LIU board needs to be replaced. It costs about $40.00 from Brother for the part.
