take it to a service dealer centre and have the speed limiter in the ECM reprogrammed
Check the fault codes while you are there to see if there are faulty sensors as well
Check to see if there's water in the oil pan on the dipstick. If so, you warped your cylinder heads and/or block... but I think your engine block is steel.
That could be a number of things, clogged fuel filter, faulty ignition coil, battery voltage low due to old faulty battery/bad alternator. Recommend finding a reputable mechanic that will properly diagnose the problem.
I have a 96 Grand Marquis with a similar problem. Also on the highway it would just conk out on me suddenly, almost felt like I was hitting the brakes, then it would pick up again. Eventually got to the point where it was stalling out on the highway and at red lights. One day it wouldn't start. Mechanic said the fuel filter was clogged solid. It has run well but every once in awhile still stalls out on me. From talking with other Grand Marquis owners and the mechanic the Mass Air Flow sensor may be to blame. He wanted to charge me $400 but I found the part online for about $85.
The most common problem for this is the fuel filter or dirty spark plugs. If it is the plugs you would have a slight miss when idleing or be able to smell gas fumes from exhaust. Also your gas mileage would go down. The fuel filter will cause the vehicle to feel like it will stall and die when you try to accelerate or raise the rpm's in idle. I hope this helps. If you try both and it does not help try pulling the trouble codes and having them checked.
Car dies when coming off acceleration or at idle in traffic or at a stop. I can watch the Tach go to 0 RPM, some times it will restart immediately other times it is hard to start, so far I have always been able to re-start it and Drive on. Does anybody have verified fix for this issue, I have seen posts saying can and crank sensor, throttle body, EGR, and many more ideas... Do not really want to just start replacing parts with the hope that I eventually get a fix. Help...
