Hoover Recalls Self-Propelled Vacuum Cleaners
---
Consumer Complaints
Hoover Company Inc. has agreed to pay a $750,000 civil penalty to settle allegations that it failed to report to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) the sale of vacuum cleaners with defective on-off switches that can overheat and cause the vacuum cleaner to catch fire.
In April 2005, Hoover conducted a recall of 636,000 Hoover Self-Propelled Upright Vacuum Cleaners because of defective on-off switches.
In June 2004, after CPSC received notice of several vacuum cleaner incidents, the Commission staff requested Hoover provide a full report of incident information. In July 2004, when Hoover submitted a full report, it had notice of 260 consumer incidents, of which 141 involved reports of fire. Additionally, there was one report of a minor burn injury.
Hoover first learned of a vacuum cleaner switch on one of these units overheating and melting in April 1999.
Federal law requires firms to report to CPSC immediately (within 24 hours) after obtaining information reasonably supporting the conclusion that a product contains a defect which could create a substantial risk of injury to the public, presents an unreasonable risk of serious injury or death, or violates a federal safety standard.
These Hoover Self-Propelled Upright Vacuum Cleaners are plastic, upright vacuums with the brand name Hoover and words "Self Propelled" printed on the front of the product.
Only those Hoover Self-Propelled Upright Vacuum Cleaners manufactured between May 1998 and November 1999 are included in the recall that is the subject of this penalty.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Hoover U6437-900 / U6439-900 Windtunnel Vacuum. The vacuum may have a heat sensor and it may be protecting the motor from a burn out situation. If the bag, belt and filter are clean then it may be the heat sensor or the motor may need some maintenance on the unit. Please feel free to contact your local vac dealer in your area. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Mach 4.7 runs for 2.5 minutes and shuts off

Did you use it to vacuum up fine materials like powder? If you cleaned the filters, but they are original to the machine, replace them. Try changing the bag to a fresh one as well. Beyond that, check how freely the brush turns. If it doesn't turn freely that can but excess load on the motor, if its covered in threads, remove those.

AS new return to shop, Not fit for purpose, they should replace it. sounds as if thermal fuse is tripping in the motor, resets itself when cooled down.

you probably need to replace your brushroll seeing that your belt is burning means motor is turning. first check you brushroll and see if there is an obstruction keeping it from spinning if its not spinning freely replace

MOTOR RUNS WITH NO VACUUM PRESSURE

Sounds like the belt should be replaced. It maybe turning the brush, but if you smell burning rubber, its slipping and not turning the brush with as much force as it should. Changed the belt. Check the air suction path. If the suction is reduced, something is blocking it. Check the bag (if it has one) and all filters. If the machine picks up any liquid, it will reduce the air flow through the filters and bag. Change the bag and filters. If this is an upright, you may find caked on dirt under or in the area of the brush.

My Hoover runs for a few minutes and shuts off.

It's possible the thermal reset is defective. It shuts the motor off if it gets hot. Remove the bag door and take the bag off, remove both filters and then turn the vacuum on, just leave it sit there with the motor running. This eliminates the bag or filters causing any airflow resistance. If it still shuts off after a few minutes it's likely the thermal reset is bad. Some vacuums have an external thermal reset button which can be replaced if necessary but on your model it is built into the motor and you must replace the motor. If the motor runs fine put the bag and the filter under the bag back in - (make sure the filter is clean and not restricting airflow) put the bag cover on then turn it on again. If it overheats and shuts off then you may have a clog on there somewhere restricting the airflow. If so check the power nozzle area, the hose coming from the power nozzle, the extension hose and wands for clogs or restrictions.

My hoover vacuum runs for about 10-15 minutes then the saftey feature shuts it off(overheat?). i have taking it apart a cleaned it with no results, added new bag also. after an hour it cools down and works...

Do you have suction through the tools? Does it look like it picks up when it runs? The machine could be clogged and that would cause the problem, but unfortunately the sensor that shuts the machine off could be bad if the machine isnt clogged. Its not easy to get to it, I'd take it to a repair shop.

Hoover u5720-900 quits running and restarts again after some time

There is one more filter under where the collection tank & Hepa filter sits -- there is one screw that holds the cover down - remove that filter and clean it that will help. I also find I need to vacuum the hepa filter as well- it is too expensive to replace all the time. The Hepa filter can be placed inside a plastic bag and shaken really good to get the dust off of it
