Did the previous machine show EXACTLY the same problem, or did that machine have another issue?
Regarding this one, does the DVD drive respond well to playback discs, such as commercial release DVDs, or DVDs recorded on other machines? Does it play back CDs OK? If it passes these tests, move on to-
I suggest trying to record on different discs - such as a DVD-RAM, or on a different brand of DVD-R, or DVD-Rs from a different batch to your current ones.
If the machine succeeds here, all good and well, if it fails at this point, it seems the machine is faulty and should be returned.
HD takes more info and if you don't have a fast enough processor to handle this, that might be the problem.
The age of the recorder would tell you that. If it's 3 years old that might be it. Also how can the recorder record the HD signal unless it has the right tuner??
the manual specifies that if you select for recording the FR mode the machine automatically adjusts the recording mode for the program to fit on a 4.7G dvd. If you use a dvd DL if will auto detect that you have this type of dvd and the FR mode will automatically allow you to make full use of the available space. Depending on the space needed on the dvd the picture quality will be good to excellent (refer in the manual to Recording Modes..)
Depending on the DVD Media used.
If you used DVD-R Or DVD+R, then these are write once Only.
Once data has been written, and finalised by writting the Table-of-Contents to the Disk. Then no-more can be added. Hence read-Only.
If you use RW/ DVDs then they can be written to several Times. Although your Player may insist on you Formatting/Erasing any previous Data from the Disk. Before re-writing.
If you are using Write Once only media i.e DVD-R Or +R.
Then it would be a good suggestion to write approximately 4 gig of data Or between 2-3 Hours Of entertainment, to 1 Disk.
Re-Writables are the Practical option For You.
