Whats the input and output for a a power adapter needed to work a wd elements 500gb external hard drive?

I have the same devise. The AC Adapter has this description on it: MODEL S120S150A3; INPUT: 100V-240V ac 50/60Hz 450mA Max; OUTPUT: 12V 1. 5A

An external storage-device has four major components:

* the USB cable

* the power-adapter

* the disk-drive inside the enclosure

* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the enclosure.

One of these components has failed.

Try a different USB cable.

Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.

Try connecting to a USB port on a different computer.

Take a "multi-meter" and measure both the voltage and amperage output from the AC adapter, and compare with the specifications on the label on the adapter.

Open the enclosure, and remove the disk-drive, and then connect it as a "slave" disk-drive in a desktop computer, to see if it works at all.

Purchase a new, compatible, disk-drive, and install it in the enclosure, to "revive" your external storage device.

Get the part-number and serial-number from the label on your disk-drive, and access the manufacturer's web-site, and use "check warranty status", to see if they will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

Note that W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- you can buy a new W.D. device, through the W.D. web-site, at a significant discount.

You have a bad power supply. You can probably get a new adapter for it.

Yes you can use any power cord that has the same output and input look on old plug to get input and output.

Can find them on eBay, if you can narrow down on the manufacture date. For the model I had, either Acbel AD6008 OR Asian Power Devices (APD) DA-30C01 work. I ordered a replacement which worked - but my real problem was needing a new hard drive casing. So now I have 2 power cords I don't need...but at least I have my data.

It could just be the 5-Pin AC Adapter. If you live in europe and your drive is still under warranty you can call WD and have them send one to you.
