When I boot up the date goes back to 2005. This has affected the Norton Antivirus program. I notice that it was lost and message to renew appeared. Then I have to reset it by: (1) going to the bios setting and reset it. or (2) right click on the date in bottom left hand corner and reset it. Does this date reversal meand a CMOS battery needs replacing?

Its due to your default CMOS setup does not match with your CPU configuration especially with CPU speed.

1. To fixed the above problem goto BIOS and navigate settings of CPU, speed etc. Set the speed with the proper value as per manual. And save the settings.
2. Infuture when you will load default, at that time also set the CPU settings.

• The CMOS battery might not be connected properly or may be its not producing enough power as per needed by board. So have a look with another battery. Also clean the connection point of the CMOS battery.

make sure your using new cmos battery not yet been use and then set date in your bios and save it after finish.
still doesn't work?
try update your cmos that migth be the problem note! remember always take care of the risk on updating flashing cmos on power interuption never power off if still flashing. or if you update and flush it before it might be a bad flash of your cmos try bring it up to early state or restore your backup cmos firmware or download it to its main manufacture

That board has a built in video card if I have the right info. If you are using an external video ie plug in card then you need to make sure the onboard video is disabled or that the plug in card is designated as the main video card. Not doing either of those will cause the black screen.

Also may try moving the clear bios jumper pin which should be located near the battery.
