My bluray player is a sony have owned it for 2 years but have primarily only played dvd's on it and have had no problems with it working on all types of discs. However recently I purchsed some bluray discs and found that it cant play them. On ocassion it posts "can not play this disc" other times it appears to be loading but then stops short of actually loading and playing the disc. I have used a lense cleaner ans am confident the unit is claen so can not understand why its not playing the bluray disk. I have gone through the manual and tried to trouble shoot the problem with no outcome. Any advice?

Lens cleaner disk works but it is a cd, which does not heat up a bluRay circuit. DVD too does not heat up the circuit. BluRay disks are denser in data(30gB) and runs closer to the lens, so reading disks is more critical. And some movies may heat up the circuit to freeze the functions. Maybe a moisture problem, keep it power on to drive off moisture on the semiconductor ICs.until bluRay disks work.

My Samsung smart tv & my dvd/bluray player recorder I bought at same time. Haven't had blurays til now & wont play at all. Rental ones did now I've bought my own & they don't play! Not tech minded.HELP

Each DVD player is assigned a code for the region in which it's sold. For example USA/Canada are Region 1 players. DVD players will refuse to play discs not coded for its specific region. In effect, this means that a DVD purchased in one country is normally unreadable on a DVD player bought in another region.

If your rental DVDs work in the player then there is nothing wrong with your DVD player. If you have purchased DVDs that do not work the problem is with the DVDs you have, not with the DVD player.

My samsung BluRay Player BD D5700 will play DVD's but will not play BluRay DVD's.

I had a similar issue. Try resetting your resolution. By default it should be at the highest level. I reset mine to 1080i and now the BluRays will play.

My TV is a few years old, I think it was bogging down because it was getting too much information from the player, but that's just a guess.

I own a Samsung BD 4600 Bluray player and have encountered a problem with a few standard commercial DVDs where it won't load the movie and displays message that disc cannot be played. Any ideas on how to...

I had this problem after the Decembe 2010 firmware upgrade. Today I went to the samsung website and downloaded the RUF file for USB. You must also downloand the instructions for installing the upgrade again. It will probably take 2 installs. Now all works great. Problem solved/.

My BDP S550 was working playing most blurays. The other day I put the original release avatar bluray in and it came up as disc unknown, which had worked before. Now no blurays work in my bluray player...

If nothing is playing, you either have a dirty lens or it's out of alignment and will need service. Try a DVD lens cleaner that uses fluid, they usually cost 20 or so and can be purchased just about anywhere these days. If it still won't play, it's a service issue and needs repair/replacement, depending on cost. Get an estimate first. Hope the cleaner works!!!

When a bluray disk is stopped the player does not resume where it left off like a dvd it starts from the beginning of the disk

Hi there, this is a problem with ALL Bluray players, it is an annoying format problem, where "resume play "is not available on JAVA enabled Blurays, (BD-J).

JAVA content is usually the interactive menus and extra features on specific Blurays. These are essentially computer programs, so when you close them and re-open them they open from the beginning, (Just like on your computer, when you close a program).

All standard DVD's and non BD-J discs will resume play as expected, this is why some people think there is an intermittent fault, and others say that there model of player is working fine. Hope this helps.

Won't play new blue ray disk

Will your machine play standard movie DVD discs? if it does then the laser pickup assembly is the problem. The blue ray discs require a higher precision tracking to offer better resolution.

I have the latest software version for the BDPBX2 11.4.008 when I try to play the Avatar Bluray DVD I get the following message: if you experience problems playing back this DVD go to...

I have Avatar Blu-ray movie and it plays on my BDP-BX2 11.4.006 version. Take it back and get it exchanged. Try new one. May have to go to another store since the same shipments (bulk) that are at your store are ALL the same. I have done this 4 times with 4 different movies and 2 of them worked. I'm getting the .008 update but, I'm starting to think the Blu-ray disc are the problem since I have one that is made in Mexico??? I don't think they are all being made correctly. Too Cheap!

I have a sony blu-ray player but it will not play bluray films, it will play dvd. are thers any settings to change/ picture is blured, will not play in 1080. thanks dennis

You should download the latest firmware from the website and update your player. If that does not work, the blu-ray lens eye is bad. There are 2 lasers that read discs, one red and one blue. The red reads normal dvd. The blu reads blu-ray.

We had this very same problem and all we did was upgrade our standard, generic HDMI cable to a Monster brand "higher def" cable, and all was right with the world. Hope this helps!
