I have a belkin g plus mimo 3ASF5F router which is unsecured. I want to enable a security password. I have tried by using the WEP connection on properties security and adding a password but it immediately cuts off my internet connection. I have then switched off the router and rebooted the computer but there is still no connection. To enable the internet I have to remove the password and security setting. I am obviously doing something wrong and would appreciate your assistance

You can secure your wireless network wit WEP or WAP code.
For that Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.
http://192.168.0.1
or
http://192.168.1.1
For belkin router http://192.168.15.1
or
http://192.168.2.1

If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it.
Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.
Click on wireless settings then enable WEP Security then add WEP code .It is your password to connect wi fi.Then save settings and restart router.
Then you can connect your wi fi network with that code.

if you are not able to access it with above link then you need to reset your router to defaults
For that press RESET button it is in back side of router.
Press it for 10 seconds then all settings goes to defaults.
Then try above link
Then type in user as "admin" and password as "admin" or blank or "password"
then you can see router configuration page.
Click on weireless and then enable Wireless security
Enaqble WEP then add WEP code it is your password to connect your wi fi internet then save and restart router.
Then only conects to your router who know the WEP password which you set in router.

Then you can see configuration page of router.
Set WAN settings as your internet service provider settings.
Enable DHCP .
CLick on wireless and enable wi fi.
If you want secure router then enable WEP security then add new code it is your password key for connect wi fi.

wireless network can be secure by enabling wep/wpa keys. this are passwords for your network. without the proper wep/wpa keys no one can connect to your network

Have you checked the support site? There is an article titled Configuring Wireless Security that describes just what to do. You should not, however, use WEP encryption unless you absolutely must, since it is easily cracked.

You will have to log into your router and configure WEP encryption.
To login to your router you can follow steps from documenation received with the router. It will be along the lines of open up internet explorer and in the address bar type in the IP address of the router. Most liekly 192.168.1.1 it will ask you to login should tell you credentials in router setup manual. Once in the configuration there should be a security tab were you can select the type of security to use select WEP v2 and type in a secure password. Once completed whoever wants to connect to your wireless will have to enter the WEP password. You should only have to enter it once. Then you will be as secure as you can be. If you wanted to get more secure you would change the admin password to log into the router also.

Use the reset button near where the AC adapter plugs in. Hold it in for at least ten seconds. This should set it back to factory, allowing you to set another password.

configure that wireless router type the default ip in the browser e.g.

http://192.168.1.1 and enter the default userid admin and passwrod admin and than enable the wep and disable the dhcp if you dosent require to connect more system to your wireless network. enable the wireless security and enter the ssid code in it. This will secure your wireless connection to get access from outsider's ok

are you typing the correct upper or lower case and not confusing zeros with the letter 'O'

hello!

normally, if you configure the wireless security settings wirelessly, it will automatically disconnect you from the network. you have to input the security key on the laptop first before it connects you back to the network.

i suggest, if you really like to configure the settings of your router, get an ethernet cable, connect it directly to the laptop so you can access and configure the router settings and to avoid from being disconnected
