Hi I've connected a firewire cable between the handycam and my new iMac. iMovie/iMac doesn't recognise the connection. Are there settings on the Handycam that need to be made for transfer to the iMac?

I am trying to down load video on dcr-pc101e pal tape to my mac. I have connected via usb but the mac does not seem to recognise the camera. How do I successfully download video to mac?

Use a firewire cable to connect your camera to your Mac. Have your camera at the place you want to start copying and put it in play back mode. Open iMovie in your Mac. In the iMovie window, move the little blue button to the left (to the camera icon). Then click the Import button at the bottom of your picture. If you haven't used iMovie before play around with it. It's a great movie editing program.
Good luck!

I have tried to connect my Canon XM2 to my IMac via firewire, but it is not 'seen' by IMovie, FCE or FCP, so I can't capture anything. Thanks

Open the System Profiler on the Mac and establish if the camera is connected to the Mac's firewire BUS. If not, try another cable and also test is the camera's firewire port is working. It's either a cable or socket issue. Some cameras require that the menu of the camera be set to output over firewire, check this as well.

I cannot transfer a video from my HC24 E Video camera to my Imac. Please help.

Connect with a firewire cable and open iMovie. You should be able to capture. If not open the System Profiler and see if the camera is recognized by the firewire BUS.

I was using the ADVC300 on my old MacPro G5. I just got a new iMac Intel 27" and can not figure out how to connect the unit to this machine.. Do I need a different cable then the IEEE-1394 since I do not...

connect box to Mac via FireWire

The connection would be, analog into device, firewire to computer. Play the analog device and import into iMovie, Final Cut or other editor. They should see the signal and therefore import to a digital file. Check with System Profiler to see if it sees the firewire device. If your software allows playing to the firewire device, the ADVC300, then you can record to those analog devices.

Software for applemac

Hi, Well, congratulations on the new Mac upgrade.
You will be pleasantly surprised to hear that there is no mac software for any video camera.......
Because all the necessary software for any and all digital video cameras is built right into the MacOS and the iMovie application and the iPhoto Application.
So, all you have to do is connect your camera to your Mac, using the cable that came with your camera, either firewire or USB turn on the camera and then launch iMovie and the Mac will automatically recognize that a camera is connected and it will ask you if you want to import...
