What is your mobile model?Have you tried the mobile with other Indian sim cards? If you still get the same error then I think your phone is locked with a Saudi Arabian network. You need to unlock it...otherwise it wouldn't accept other networks. You can approach third party unlocking services like Unlock-zone.com and by specifying the mobile make, model, country and network to which the mobile is locked to you will be able to get the unlock service along with free unlock instructions.Once unlocked you will be able to use the phone with Indian sim cards. If the phone works with other Indian simcards without unlocking then may be there is a problem with the sim card that you are using now.Approach the network provider and get a new sim.

If you are trying to use it on AT&T then you need to get an unlock code. Try here: http://www.cellunlocker.net
When you enter code it should continue on to Google signup screen. Before you press on the Android logo, click on the Menu button. Then follow the APN settings at:
http://www.blogsdna.com/2357/how-to-unlock-t-mobile-g1-phone.htm
(Scroll down til you see the AT&T settings.)
Then you should see the EDGE icon at top right.
Now you can setup/sign in to your Google account.
Cheers
you just need to use a friends sim card that has the g1 data plan and set up your gmail account and then when you put your sim card in the g1 wont ask you for the gmail account again thats what i did
Hi, I had that problem. I first verified that my TMobile internet was activated on my account and on my SIM card by putting the card in another phone and connecting to the 'net on it. Then I found the APN setting on the G1 and I changed the APN at the heading "T-Mobile US" from the new 3G APN "epc.tmobile.com" to the older APN "internet2.voicestream.com". The APNs can be accessed on your still-locked phone by pushing the "Menu" button at the sign-in screen. Scroll down to "T-Mobile US", select it and change "epc.tmobile.com" to "internet2.voicestream.com", exit by pushing the left-arrow button a few times, then re-enter your GMail info. If the "Edge" icon has appeared in the menu bar area, then you're golden!
