I have an HP Officejet 7310 All-In-One. How do I set it up to automatically receive faxes. when Im home and not home. I have a fax pending and cant receive it right now. do I press * on my home phone?

According to the HP manual for this unit:

1. Verify that your HP all-in-one is set to answer fax calls automatically. (Press the Auto Answer button so the light is on.)
2. Press Setup.
3. Press 5, and then press 1.This displays the Advanced Fax Setup menu and then selects Answer Ring Pattern.
4. Press the down arrow key to highlight an option, and then press OK. When the phone rings with the ring pattern assigned to your fax phone line, the HP all-in-one answers the call and receives the fax.

I also have vonage and this fax macine - the incoming fax was going to vonage answering machine.

I went to setup (that little button above and to the right of the OK button to "basic fax setup" and changed my rings to answer from 5 to 2. This will work for me, because I only set it to auto answer when I know a fax is inbound - you might want to adjust so you can aswwer a call if you do not have a dedicated fax line.

Ok - phone off hook is a message on the printer because you are on the phone. There is a phone that is up somewhere in your home that it can recognize. You cannot send a fax or receive and be on the phone at the same time. This can also be caused by credit card machines, internet service (filter needs to be on fax line), and other fax machines.

Press Menu button on the machine and than go to Advance fax setup and after than make the below mentioned chnaged

Error Correction Mode (ECM = Off
Automatic reduction = On

u need to make change to answer ring pattern from the front panel of unit .

Set the fax function to answer the phone automatically by pressing the auto answer mode button on front panel .

check whether the auto answer is turned on...

either u have the button on the front panel of the printer itself "auto answer" or u will have it in the fax menu...

press the menu button and scroll down to fax setup or advanced fax setup, make sure the auto answer option is turned on....

Press Setup on the All-in-One. Navigatet to Advanced Fax setup - Fax speed. Set the Fax speed to Slow. Also set the ECM (Error Correction Mode) to Off. Try sending FAX.
