No, Canon machines only work with all inks installed, you can get air bubbles in the printhead without inks and that would ruin the printhead.

First, go to Canon i9900 Support

If the Support & Service tab is not selected, click on it.

In the search box type reseating printhead and click Search.

One of the results will be "How do I reseat/remove the printhead?"

Click it. A step by step (with animation) will be shown. Just install the new printhead when it calls to reseat the printhead.

Make sure you do the printhead alignment after installing. if you are unsure about how to do this, go back to the support page above and search for align printhead. There will be step by step instructions for this too.

You may need a new printhead now, or you may have left a foam packing block inside the new purge unit.

That error is about the printhead when the printhead goes bad, you need QY6-0054-000, around $40.00, a new printhead.

That is a purge system error, either you need a new purge assembly or there is a paper scrap caught in there stopping it. The purge unit is on the right where the printhead parks at shutdown and where the printhead is cleaned.

If you can reach in and get the printhead to move to the center, you need to remove the printhead and see if it powers on. Many times a defective printhead will keep it from powering up.

First off I would recomment a new printhead. Short of that run the printhead alignment and calibration.

there is printhead cleaning option in the printer. tell her to do that cleaning 3-4 times. this problem also occurs if the cartridges r near to empty and replacing the cartridges solves this problem.

mp f30 won't work, reading in display says{wrong cartridge}.
