My nokia 1600 looses signal completely all of a sudden, even though the battery is fully charged. The phone is 5 years old. I have not changed the battery ever.

If the battery is fully charged and still it does not turn on then either the power button is faulty or the phone. Did the phone get a jerk, because sometimes even a small thud can snap some connection inside as everything is so very delicate inside. Is it under warranty? if yes then Nokia Care is the answer.
there are few options by which this problem may rise .
* Old battery will not charge if its bulged. so get new 1
* Check if the charging plug in side th mobile has not broken.
* There mite be a short connection with the pin which will not charge the battery.
* take battery out keep it in sun for 5 mins and use it.or rub in 1 direction. mite work.

Symbol "G" and "E" are not related to this problem."G" means GPRS and "E" means Internet .The charging problem might comes due to bad charger or cgharging coil might fused or charging filter (IC) might sort.
