Had the same problem with my MRM 700 back in 2005, only 2 months after I purchased it. They changed the connector, and it worked. BUT, few months later I had the same problem again. I haven't used it anymore since then (moved to another country), now I am trying to fix it but no warranty anymore..
This is the boot screen, Remove the power connection, and reinsert while you press the "Cancel" button at the same time, if done correctly, your Roadmate should continue to boot and enter the user mode.
i use to own a 700, i advise you to get the new magellan mastreo 4000 or higher,i did my research and the magellan700 roadmate is no longer being serviced.that is what the magellan website has had showed and someone on here also has said it and they start to have alot of problems.i own now a mastreo 4000 so far so good no problems.
I had a very similar problem downloading the new version for my roadmate 700 as well. I chose to shut system down .I then unplugged everything. I reinstalled the dvd into my computer.I powered up the roadmate700 and hit the enter button and the screen came up to pick user I hit user one. I plugged the USB calble in and started the download again and it worked out for me just fine. I hope this works for you also. Good Luck
Try resetting user data. At user menu, press "-" zoom out and repeat button at same time. select reset user data, it will reboot automatically, then check to see if it is any better. If not, hopefully the software came with your unit and you can re-install it.
Good luck and let me know if you need help with the installation.

Steve, In this case I would replace the Hard drive. But, since you probably don't have spare HDD's lying around.. do you atleast have the Software version? Some CD that came with it hopefully. If you do, then you may be able to stay alive here. Once your system boots to the user screen.. press + and repeat key at the same time.. "secret" menu now. ONLY IF YOU HAVE SOFTWARE TO INSTALL!! Select NAND FLASH FORMAT.. The unit will shut down after formatting. start up your software installer on computer. plug usb in.. and power on unit. This fix isn't %100, but it's the best shot you have. Otherwise you've gotta send it down here to Texas (where magellan repair is) and pay for the new hard drive. OR.. you could call customer service and see what they have to say. you'll probably be transferred to overseas..
--good luck with that

Does the initial Magellan screen appear? If it doesn't display anything and it's just blue... :( Normally means that something on the main board is your problem. Which, means your out of luck. What happened to it? It just suddenly stopped working? Let me know.
