I had this problem before. The screws on the screen aren't very tight, and can sometimes fall out. However, seeing as the only screws that hold the screen in place happen to be right next to the power button... well you get the idea. You should check to see if the screws are there at all, and if not, replace them. It worked for me when the laptop wouldn't even turn on. Power button problem.
This is a common fault with this model. There is a lead that connects to the switch that is built into the hinge, this lead runs through the hinge to the motherboard and breaks over time.
Try getting one from packard bell, they are truely useless!!!! I am able to get them for £39.00 inc VAT and delivery.
