There is a little cover over a spring. The loops of the spring go inside the screw that holds the cover. The spring ends are against the wall and a small pin connected to the button on the side. Keeps the button locked. Cleaning out dried coffee in the are may help and pam spray may keep it from sticking.
Thank you very much. This was very helpful.
Tom, I have a similar problem with my Cuisinart burr coffee grinder model DBM -8 but new to this site Im having trouble posting my question. It seems the spring keeping the basket connected to to motor has come off. It sopped abruptly when it was grinding. I removed the bottom and this spring with a nub on the end fell out. Can you tell me how to reconnect it? Thanks. I need my coffee! I hope you’re still around.

I have the grindn Brew model DBG-600BC . The only info I could get was on this site and I believe the guy had model 500 . I took the cover off the plastic piece to dismantle the basket after a coffee overflow and when I did the spring popped out . Well after an hour and a lot of swearing I got the darn thing back together and working Ok here's how it works for this model Keep in mind that the entire operation is done w the coffe maker in the upside down position .You have the spring with an end horizontal to the spring and the other end with an end perpedicular to the spring exactly like the model 500 - on the unit there is a plastic pin and in front of it a larger circle , which is where the spring goes The spring must push on the right side of the pin ( pushing it left ) in order to allow the latch to catch, this is the horizontal side of the spring and it has a left hook where it pushes on the right side if the pin The other side must push against the outside body of the coffee maker, just a little to the right of the hotizontal end .Place your left hand underneath where the pin is and lift up all the mechanism and with your right hand push the perpendicular side if the spring to the left until it seats up against the right side of the machine (That's why the entire right side if the plastic cover has no side because that's where the spring goes. Keep pushing up w your left hand - you should be able to place the plastic piece ( open side to the right and screw it down in place . I hope this helps
I wish there was a diagram or photo (I should have taken one before I took it off) because I still was thinking that each end of the spring had to go on opposite ends from the other and even though I read your instructions, it was still not clear to me and I was having an aggravating time trying to keep tension on the spring and then put the cover back on before it slipped loose. Then I finally figured out what I was doing wrong, and then I put both ends of the spring over on the same side, not opposite each other. Then I could bend the spring to where both ends almost met each other to supply the tension, (and now it was not sticking out so much on the other side that the cover could not be put on) and the tension was now enough to keep the spring in place long enough for me to put the cover over it and screw it in finally! Thanks!

The best solution I've found is to remove the spring that pops the door open. When you open the door there is a tab on the frame of the coffee maker close to the release button. Push that tab down and pull out the filter basket assembly. When you pull it out there is a spring that will either fall out or you will see sticking out of a tube in the back of the coffee maker.
You can either pull this spring out and put the assembly back in which will necessitate that you now have to pull the door open from the bottom when you push the release button, or you can clip part of the spring off making it weaker which will put less stress on the release button making it less likely the door will pop open.
I removed the spring completely and that solved my problem.
Note: This spring is not the same one as is discussed in the prior comments. The prior comments refer to the small two-armed spring that is inside the little plastic housing on the underside of the fixed rail on the left of the coffee maker. This comment refers to the long (~ 2.5 inch) spring that is inside the tubular compartment that is built into the shelf that slides on the rails. The small spring pushes on a lever that keeps the sliding shelf in place. Pushing the button on the side of the coffeemaker acts against that spring, disengaging the catch on the sliding shelf, allowing the larger spring to push the shelf forward out of the unit.
