HI...This is Bhushan here, It is nice to see that Fixya is reaching out to people to solve any electronic gadget related problems. I would be obliged if you could solve my problem too. A friend of mine gifted me his KLH R5100 Audio Video Receiver System before going abroad. Initially for first 2 months it worked fine and I was very pleased to get theater like audio experience at home. Recently it has developed a problem. While the radio is being played it skips radio stations on its own. It is very disturbing that when you have started to enjoy one song that is being played on one of the radio stations, suddenly it skips to the next radio station (either previous or next) and plays something else. I find it very irritating. Moreover I also noticed that when i select DVD or TV as a source of input signal, there also the same thing happens. Suddenly it switches to radio receiver and starts playing one of the radio stations. I would appreciate it if you could help me resolve this issue as we don't have KLH Service Center here in Mumbai City of India. Thanking you and awaiting your valuable response as soon as possible. I would like to know what exactly is causing this problem. I know the solution could be only by replacing one or more faulty electronic components. I request you to check with the experts from the industry and let me know which part/ component is causing this problem .

While it is possible that stray infrared (IR) radiation can cause problems, it usually only effects the use of a remote and sort of "jams" up the signal. I have seen symptoms like this before when there was excessive AC ripple on the 5V power line. This is most commonly caused by defective filter capacitors in the power supply. The model you list has a switch mode power supply in it with Zener diode regulation and capacitors for filtering. If you have no electronics repair experience, please seek assistance. If you have experience, first check the filter caps. These will likely be 1000uFD-2200uFD caps in the 10-16V range and be rather large (1/4" or more in diameter and about 1-1/2 inches in length).

Check that first and update this with the results.
