If it's just the power cord you need, monoprice.com has excellent prices. Here's the cord listing:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10228&cs_id=1022806&p_id=1307&seq=1&format=2

If you actually need the entire power adapter, that's a bit more complicated. There are a lot of online vendors, but I'd need to know your location and "risk tolerance" to give you the best purchasing options.

Monoprice will usually give you some good prices. Also, try getting some long hdmi cables. They'll do you good.

My HP Scanjet 5400C Scanner has decided to stop working. The 12 volt mains transformer feels cold and no light comes on the scanner. It appears that the transformer is US. Where can I buy a replacement

You can probably get this from HP. See http://h20141.www2.hp.com/Hpparts/Search_Multi_Product.aspx?mscssid=42F39AE6AD6B4EFBBC921EC42BADCDE3&SearchCriteria=Scanjet~5400C and select your model. There are 4 versions of the ScanJet 5400C listed. Then select power module in the drop down menu and click on the arrow; power cords are listed separately. Alternatively, click on the arrow for show all parts. The listings are clearly labeled for the country electrical system with which a given part is compatible.

I hope this helps.

When I scan back screen comes up blue and words and numbers are

http://fixunix.com/hewlett-packard/101142-scanjet-5400c-dead.html

following this link i've found resetting instructions for this scanner:

1.. Disconnect the USB cable and the power cable from the
scanner. Make sure the power cable is still connected to the
power source.
2.. Press the Scan and Email buttons at the same time, while
plugging the power cable back into the scanner. The scanner will
enter a Demo Mode.
3.. Press the Cancel button on the scanner to start the test.
4.. To end the test, disconnect and reconnect the power cable
without holding the buttons down.

I've had exactly the same problem with my scanjet 5400c (blue distorted images) but after resetting the scanner (see instuctions posted above) the problem was fixed

You may want to try this web page that tells you how to get the HP 5300C

Loss of power

I have a similar scanner, scanjet 5470c which is using the same power supply as 5400c and 5490c
2 weeks ago the scanner stopped working, yesterday i checked the scanner and found out that there was no power (12V)
the power module (black box) going into the 220V is a plastic box without service possibility. I took a screwdriver and a hammer to open the box. Inside the box i found a lot of electronics and yes a Fuse aswell. I did not have spare fuses, so like all bad boys i replaced the fuse with a wire, and guess what? .. yep I blew several main fuses in the house and now have a burned-out power supply.
the power module is still available at the HP Parts Store the part number is C8517-84201 i see a list price of 23 EUR

Before a buy a new power module I will first test the scanner with a spare 12VDC and see if he still works.

I will come back and tell you if it works...
