You need to download and install drivers again. The only website distributing drivers for Mirascan is this one , as Acer dose not provide drivers for this device anymore. You will need to subscribe to website to download drivers
Unplug Scanner before installing drivers, plug it back only when finished installing or when required
The fact is that your scan is out of production and acer never distributed drivers for XP. This model is not on Windows XP compatibility list and is not supposed to work with XP.
The original drivers provided were designed for 98/ME/NT.They may work on some XP system, evidently they do not work on your XP motherboard.
Adding a parallel port card would not help, as it is Windows that cannot manage control of the scanner.
All you can do is trying the drivers above, if they do not work you will need a new scanner.

on the home page you should see a search tab just type in what you are looking for
(be precise) but not to much detail also tick in the all software or windows software box
IE: vga drivers or motherboard name vga drivers

I tried all sorts of installations, followed your recommendations etc,trieds all the mirascans offered non of the workedAs I tld U it is a Mercury 650p using an acer peripheral 24 pins .I installed a PCI single port enhanced parallel card, unplugged the jacks, & followed all the instructions. nothing could move the scanner that was working on my previeous computer.Is upgrading to a core2duo 2.6inetl cpu & mothermoboard affected it?I need a flatbed because the place on my table is fit to it.Another suggestion dear Guru?
