Gaggenau Cook-top VG 352-812 problems

I just bought a house that had some Gaggenau cook-tops installed - Gaggenau VG 352-812 cook-top stoves with stainles steel hinged covers. The previous owner didn't leave any manuals so may be flying blind but I have requested them from the Gaggenau website. Some serious concerns I have about this model and wonder if there any upgrades available: 1. On two occasions when I was entertaining folks (who gathered in the kitchen) someone accidently leaned up against a cook-top knob which evidently started the gas then a short while later the person leaning against the knob evidently started the igniter and there was a muffled explosion and the Stainless top flew open. 2. Also, when a friend was done cooking today, she (thought she had) turned off the stove and lowered the top. Just as we were about to leave, she took another swipe at the stove tops with a cleaning rag only to find the Stainless top was extremely hot. Being an engineer, I can't help but think there could (should) be an add-on to help prevent these potentially disastrous situations. Also, is it necessary when initially starting the burner, to physically hold in the cook-top stove knob over 30 seconds before the flame will stay on by itself? .....and the 'low' setting is not noticeably different from the 'high' setting. (Maybe these questions will be answered by the manual?). Can you help? Thanks for your time.

Hi, interesting. I have the same units on my GasHob and my problems are exactly reverse. To turn the burners on it takes about 15 clicks and with some luck you'll get gas! Sorry, wished I could help.

How to remove the stove top on frigidaire stove model FFGS3025PS

IF you open the door to the stove, you will see screws under the lip of the cook top, take those out, check the back of the stove for screws and then lift the cook to. On some models you may have to remove the sides of the stove too.

Gaggenau 200 Series?

If it is similar to the VE260 model, this induction type of cook top is very old. 22 - 23 years if it came with the home when it was built.
I can only offer basic suggestions of which you already probably know.
These induction type cook tops rely on the pan or skillet to be magnetic like stainless steel. If the bottom of the pan has any buildup of residue, this will dramatically reduce the efficiency of the unit.
If the pans are immaculate, then the electronic elements that produce the magnetic induction to heat the coils must be weak. As old as the unit is, it is probably not feasible to have 3 of the elements repaired....
A new top can be purchased much cheaper. Consult Consumers Reports for unbiased product reviews for your best reviews. As a final suggestion, find someone who is qualified to use an electrical multimeter to read the current on both sides of the power receptacle to ensure that your voltage is 230V. A loose connection on the receptacle can cause the elements to have the same result.
Although I can imagine you have already done everything above, I just wanted to send you what I can offer.

The Grill side on my electric cooktop doesnt seem heat up enough

I had the same problem with the 45" Jenn Air downdraft cook top. The installation of the ductwork from the stove to the outside of the house was not properly installed. The stove is appr 18' from an outside wall and the flow of air was hampered by
too great a bend in the ductwork at the point below the stove on the underside of the house and the pipe going to the outside wall. I believe that was corrected with more curve in the vent work, making for a smoother flow of air. Make sense?

3 wire cook top to a 4 wire outlet

Older 3 wire connectors where Wht=Neutral Ground Return, Red=One Phase Hot, Blk=Second Phase Hot, of 220VAC stove connections.

Newer Electrical code standard has a forth wire that is bare copper for a separate safety ground return.
I suggest you but a 4 wire pig tail cable for your stove top, available at Depot or Lowes, and connect 3 wires of this 4 wire cable just like the 3 wires are now connected. The 4th bare copper safety is attached to any metal part of the stove. Find a screw you can loosen to wrap it around and tighten.
