I have a Denon DRA 397 receiver and when I power it up the standby light goes on but nothing else powers up?

If you are not pressing the power button on the remote that may be the problem

Can dra 37 be used as a pre-amp without connecting speakers

If you mean a sa control center for source selection, volume and tone control, yes, but NOT for a turntable (no PHONO).

Controlled audio goes emerges from the pre-out. Page 9.

But you could still use its own speaker terminals if your exxternal amp has is remote or has its own volume control to match it up with other speakers.

Denon DRA-37 Receiver-Remote lock on. Need to unlock.

Refer to the "Initialization of the Microprocessor" section of the manual (page 16 of the PDF version of the manual).
1) Turn the unit OFF using the On/Off switch (not the standby switch).
2) Depress both the Speaker A and B switches, and turn the Power ON.
3) The entire display should flash at 1-second intervals. The microprocessor should be reset, and the remote should be unlocked.

Remote lock on

This worked for me, but I'm sure tired of constantly searching for ways to fix the problems I encounter with my Denon DRA-397. When it works, it's great, but I don't have a degree in electrical engineering. Why can't they produce a user friendly trouble shooting guide?

Denon DRA 395 volume creeps to max by itself

I also had this problem with my Denon DRA 395. I fixed it by replacing the batteries in my remote! Apparently when the remote batteries are nearly gone, but not 100%, they are capable of prompting the remote to unilaterally increase the volume at irregular intervals. It was kind of spooky!

Remote locked

I had the same thing happen. This fixed it...

1. Press master power switch OFF

2. Hold down Speaker A & B buttons simultaneously then press master power switch

Display will flash at 1 second intervals denoting that the microprocessor has reset.

3. Release Speaker A & B buttons

Remote should now work.
