I called GE and was told to "unplug adapter, unplug phone line from wall jack, remove batteries from headsets, and leave unplugged for 15 min then replug in reverse order". I did this but it didn't work. I called back and they told me to buy new phones. My phones are 18 mths old. My biggest concern is getting my stored numbers out of the phone. They are numbers I don't have any place else. Can you help???
In case you're interested, I contacted Thomson and complained about this (what I consider a defect) problem. After a few emails and phone calls, they agreed to replace the phones. I had to post $50 on a credit card to insure that I'd return the defective phones. I did return the phones and the $50 wasn't charged on my credit card. The new set stinks; I'd rather have the old set with a clear display. The new one displays the length of a call as each call is ended. I can't turn this off. I can't instantly redial another number, I have to wait for the display to disappear. There's also an issue with the volume. Thomson/GE products are off my list for good.In case you're interested, I contacted Thomson and complained about this (what I consider a defect) problem. Got a new land phone subscription from Comcast. My GE telephone had already been plugged in for about 3 months (never unplugged the phones). I noticed when Comcast had left, I couldn't read the names or numbers on the Caller ID. I also have the GE 28111 Twin Cordless Phone set. Please help! Thank you!

I just got off the phone with a GE rep, they said to unplug all phones from the wall for 15 minutes, then remove the batteries and put them back in the opposite way they came out. That will reset the system and fix the problem.
If it does not fix it, you'd need to purchase new phones.
Caller ID is only sent to devices plugged directly into the "PHONE" jack on the back of the 21518. I'm guessing your TV DVR or Cable Box is connected directly to the real phone line. Maybe you need an RJ-11 splitter so you can plug both your phone AND the cable box in to the "PHONE" output of the 21518. I appologize if you've already tried this.
I contacted GE today and they told me how to get the caller ID to work on the additional handsets. You must follow these steps in the exact order given.
#1 - unplug the base phone
#2 - unplug the telephone line from the base phone
#3 - remove the battery packs from the phones
#4 - wait 10 minutes.
reverse the order when assembling. Put battery packs in phones, put the telephone line back in the base phone and lastly plug all phones back in. It takes about another 10 minutes after that before all phones start recognizing caller ID but it now works fine.
Try changing the cord between the base unit and the phone jack.
Some phones are pretty fussy about this, and when they are, it's
usually the caller ID information that gets clobbered.
Alternatively, try attaching the base unit to a different phone jack -
preferably the jack with the shortest wiring run to where the phone
service comes into your home.

Called GE. Here's what's happening (at least with my phone). I use
VONAGE as a carrier. VONAGE's package includes voicemail. I have my
VONAGE voicemail account set up to take any call that comes in if the
answering machine on my GE phone does not pick up -- for instance if
I'm on the phone and I do not "flash" over to the incoming call, that
caller will eventually be sent to my VONAGE voicemail where they can
leave a message. (Otherwise I would either take the call, or, if not
already in use, the GE phone/answering system would simpy take the
message.) This GE phone is commucating with my VONAGE account
and letting me know that I have a mesage in my VONAGE
account voicemail. All I have to do is either go online and delete the
messages (after listening to them of course) and refresh the page. Once
the messsages are deleted, the carrier lets my phone know the messages
are gone and the NEW VOICE MAIL prompt on the handset disappears. I
suppose I can do it by listening to the messages by calling in and deleting through the touch pad on the phone as well.
