Hi. I have an ALBA LCD32880HDF television which I purchased in August 2009 so just outside warrenty. I have been on holiday for a week and had switched the television off at the wall and returned home yesturday. We watched the tele for a couple of hours before going out and left the tele on standby. Returned home an hou or so later but now when turning the tele on we have a picture for a few minutes before it goes black! We still have sound and if I use the remote to change channels or adjust volue it works, but screen stays black. Tried leaving the tele off overnight but still not working. Any advice greatly recieved. Kind regards Ian

    Thanks for your comments.

Is this easy to repair myself? Do I have to replace the whole power supply?

I have replaced the tele with a brand new higher spec'd Samsung but still have the broken ALBA which would be nice to get fixed.

Absolutely gutted - I got rid of this tele sometime ago as I couldnt get it working, and purchased a new one.

Hi all the black screen solution for me was this (this is assuming you have alba brand tvs and have the black screen BUT can still hear the sound) i after much fekkin around with it eventually found the solution in it (its the bloody backlight brightness in the settings you need to turn it from high TO LOW) ....... now this can be a bit tricky because usually when you have the black screen problem if u unplug the tv for a few hours and plug it back in you only get or should get probably like 30-1min of picture time before the picture goes black so u have to be reallllly fast with the menu button to get into settings before the picture dies (i learned the sequence for my alba lcd32880hdf) it was the following (for this part use the remotes arrows the one with the ok button usually in the centre of them) turn the tv on then click menu then press the up key 2 times then press ok then use the right arrow/button twice (although u cant see what ur doing ur navigating the menu hehe) then press the down arrow/button seven times before finally pressing the left arrow/button (once) <-- (now this bit may need to be done twice if you can remember setting ur backlight to max use it twice it will put it on minimum if in doubt only press it the once remember to totally power the tv off before repeating the steps to reset menus default posistions) remember thats the solution i found for my tv stands to reason (since i did infact buy another tv same brand different model which got the same problem) that this could be a solution for all alba tv users try it worked for me 2 times if ur not sure of the menu look up you tv models menu navigation online to find out the buttons you press gl hopefully it works for you too

Bishop_die: This worked! Thanks you've just saved me several hundred quid. I didn't need the first 2 steps as my menu defualts to top bit where you right arrow to picture, then down 7 to backlight. It doesn't look bad with low backlight. ALBA really are shonky with this fault.

    Thanks Chu3505.

Yes, the picture comes on, sometimes for a few minutes and sometimes for a couple of seconds. It varies.

Is the LCD Invertor board something that I could replace myself? Will I have to replace both of them if there is 2 in my TV? How will I know if there is 2?

the inverter is combined with the power supply. it caused by the 24 volts . dipping below 23 volts, which is caused by the tuning capacitors of the primary of the switching transformer for the 24 volts supply

Alba LcD32880HDF. How do I reinstall free view channels.

Hi,
Try here;

Page 19 is the stuff you'll need.

You will need an aerial plugged into the TV to receive the DTV signal in the first place.

Best of look.

Alba lcd32880hdf has lost colour when watching Tv but works when using games console

It is almost for sure a bad connection at you wires. To show in black and white means your red and green are reversed or bad. I am guessing you have this hooked up with component.

Tv switches off and then when plugged back in flashes red and then blue will not come back on for hours

That happened to my 60 inch mitsubishi, fortunately mine was under warranty. The tv simply needs to be updated by the tv repaiman

I set a parental control password on my alba lcd32880hdf 2 years ago and can't remember what it is. Can I reset it?

When you said this: They said: turn on the DVD player. Hit "set-up". Scroll down to the "lock" icon. Scroll over to "Rating". Scroll over to unlock. Enter 0000. Click on Ok. Enter 0000 again, click Ok again. Menu should read unlock. Voila!, is that dvd on the tv or a normal dvd player

32" ALBA 15 MONTHS OLD.

I am afraid it sounds as though either your backlight or power inverter has gone faulty, may be worth contacting alba to see if they will honour the warrenty (unlikely but worth a go) otherwise maybe try your home insurance to see if its covered, failing either of these options, if you feel confident doing so, disassemble the tv and look for any signs of visible damage (capacitors leaking or any components looking burned or scorche, and replace. Try looking for any panel markings which will allow you to search for a price to replace the whole unit.
Unfortunately I cant give you and hard and fast cure, and it is very difficult to tell whether it is the inverter or the backlight has gone (having said that, if you are getting picture at the very beginning, it may suggest that the inverter is getting the power to the backlight ok, which may suggest its the backlight at fault.)
Hope this helps.
